Maybe I blew the story out of context...

If this is true (and I did NOT hear that), then I feel like a fool.
Hey, you're entitled to your opinion. I don't have to agree with it, and it doesn't make either of us wrong. There's a lot that's wrong with baseball. The games are too long to begin with. And as a Cards fan, I've sat thru way too many rain delays this season. All stadiums should be required to have a retractable roof!!

The best baseball announcer is Russ Hodges he is the one who did the GIANTS WON THE PEANUTS--He did the SF 49ers and Giants in the 60 and 70 I have never heard anyone as good as he was. I loved his homerun calls bye bye baby

It was the football Giants that got Charlie Brown and Lucy Van Pelt in the same trade. I don't think that Brown ever made any of his field goal attempts but I personally think that Van Pelt was responsible for a lot of that.

I tire very quickly for the announcers who start complaining about a game going into extra innings. The Pads announcers do that often.
I agree. My buddy has a good line for extra innings BB. "nothing better than free baseball". How can these over paid Alpha Hotels get away with this. As far as Joe Buck.. He can pound sand. Who likes this guy any way?

What a shame. Jack Buck was the best baseball broadcaster ever (well, Vin Scully is pretty good too, and so was Ernie Harwell), and obviously enjoyed his job. I still get chills when I hear him call the Kirk Gibson home run from the '88 World Series.

Oh please. Buck couldn't carry Scully's or Harwell's mic.

I much prefer Scully's call. Overall, there are very few good announcers any more. I grew up in the Bay Area and as TCrowne said, there was nothing more exciting than hearing BYE BYE Baby!

Announcers these days are looking to create their own saying or niche. Here in AZ, the D-Backs have about the worst broadcast possible. Daron Sutton enjoys screaming just to scream. If the D-Backs are down 4-0, at the end of an inning, he screams, Let's score some RUNS! Then you see folks in the stands with their signs of "Let's score some RUNS!" and it encourages them to do more of the same stupid stuff. Fact of the matter is, the fans simply want to be on TV and they'll write anything on a sign to be the focus of attention.

You've all seen the AFLAC questions during a game. These guys will ask a question that has several answers (name the last six players to score on a bases loaded walk). Daron and his partner Mark Grace will start answering the question with their guesses. They have a buzzer and a bell and throughout the fourth inning will play their game, answer questions and either ring or buzz. If you've listened to this bit for more than a dozen games, you'd be completely irritated. You'd never hear this child's play on a "professional" Royals broadcast. I sub to Extra Innings and have not heard a broadcast team worse than my local DBacks.

But I digress....the bottom line is...these announcers have THE best job in sports. They watch a game, describe what happens, have a level of celebrity and many of them simply don't appreciate how good they have it.

BTW...THE GIANTS WIN THE PENNANT

have to say it, because I don't think we'll hear it for many years to come!

That's interesting. I find the same thing when he's doing the games. I usually turn down the volume and enjoy.

My sentiments exactly, talk about a blow hard. No wonder he is so awful along with that banshee sidekick next to him McCarver. You often hear people talk tongue and cheek about muting the volume on channels, but with these guys I literally do it. You couldn't pay me to listen to them broadcast baseball, but somehow Fox pays them.

I agee that these clowns today aren't fit to sniff Scully's jockstraps. Amazing a piece of time baseball announcers used to be the signature of their teams now you have guys like this Buck character. Ugh!

IMHO, Joe Buck, Tim Mccarver and Joe Morgan are the most unwatchable and annoying baseball announcers around. Joe Buck is the worst of them all.

My opinion as far as baseball announcers go:

McCarver= BAD
Buck= WORSE
Morgan= THE WORST
