My computer is on the other side of the room from the TV. I want to setup the on demand service with my DTV HD DVR. What is the cheapest and best equipment to get. Any suggestions would be much appreciated, thanks.

Get a powerline networking kit like this one: IOgear GHPB32W4. Plug one of the adapters into your DVR and the other into your router.

Those are 14 Mbps powerline adapters. Directv sells 85 Mbps adapters for around the same price ($35 ea. X2, free shipping). For On Demand it probably doesn't matter, but it might for Media Share video. A Cat-5 cable between the DVR and computer would be the least expensive option.
