Catfish & Tilapia - Not Great Choices for Fish

Oh, after I'm done frying it, it probably isn't too healthy either way.
 
Most heart patients are prescribed daily doses of Omega 3 fish oil caps.
I do love broiled farm catfish and tilapia so I'll need to rethink my restaurant orders in the future.
 
That's not the story I was expecting.... My brother told me that farm-raised Tilapia are always raised on fish farms in separate ponds from the other fish and that the Tilapia eat the waste that the other fish produce.

These 2 fishes are farmed in warm climates. Because of that they don't produce much fat (fish oil). That's why they have little flavor and take on the flavor of how they're prepared. Salmon on the other hand is raised in cold water whether farmed or wild. Since salmon is more mature when it's harvested it has more fat, hence its own distinct flavor. And as always flavor is where the fat is. Unlike red meat, salmon's fat is healthful.
 
Normally when I go out for Seafood, I tend to get Broiled Shrimp and /or Scallops.
Hopefully, they are GOOD for you ... I know not to have them deep fried, even though they are better tasting that way.
I usually order mine with lots of Garlic as well.

As for Fish, Fish, if I can find Orange Ruphy (spelled wrong) I look for that.
Is that any good for you ?

Just the way I eat those. For me there can never be too much garlic. :up
 
I'll have some extra garlic with that.

Not sure but I think there's some question about shrimp. Maybe cholesterol.
 
Doesn't Salmon carry high dosses of Omega-3's/ 6's? Don't tell me salmon is unhealthy too?

I think this falls in the category of "too much of one thing is bad".
All fish has both what matters is the ratio. according to the article Atlantic Salmon is heaveier on the healthy Omega 3. Not sure about pacific salmon but the article says any wild salmon is good.
 
Wild is better than farmed. It has more fat (oil). Copper River salmon if it's still in season tastes the best and it has a very high fat content (it's expensive too).
 
I believe MS is still the largest producer of farm raised catfish in the country. Yummy for me, but I guess you can get tired of it. I don't think I'll ever get enough of it. Considered starting a catfish farm when I lived in NC.

There are places were you see the ponds for 5 miles straight. I actually did an install at the Delta Pride plant which is the biggest processor in America. Don't know what smelt worst that or the chicken processing plants.
