Unless you have a pc card, the only reciever that i know of that will do 4:2:2 along with the other stuff (hd, 8qpsk, etc...) is the quali-tv.

It appears that conaxsat is coming out with a conaxsat carbon hd reciever that supposedly does 4:2:2, hd, etc.....

Does anyone know anything about conaxsat recievers in general and does anyone know anything about this particular reciever? I have already seen all of the specs listed on other sites, but i'm mostly interested in some professional or at least semi-professional opinion.

If this receiver does what it's advertised to do (ala the much hyped fortec passion that has never seen the market) it would be the perfect receiver for a sports enthusiast like me.

The neat thing about this is that it is being advertised under $400.

Is this too good to be true.

until it actually is out on the market and PROVEN to do 4:2:2 I call vapourware.

The Fortec Passion was suppose to do that too and be out this past January....or March...or May....or June....or well you get the drift

I found a company in canada taking pre-ordres for 369.00 U.S $ ,but I read on another site the date of release is the first week of august, that was moved up from the 1st week of july, and then on another site they said it has been delayed again.I was going to pre pay until I seen that. But I do believe it will be released but it doing everything they say(without an add on module)at that price is hard to believe. But if it does it will be a best seller and I will have one.

Just curious but where are you guys getting the idea this receiver will decode 4:2:2 Mpeg2? Remember sending out a 4:2:2 uncompressed digital video stream out of an HDMI or DVI port to a monitor is quite different and has nothing to do with whether the video decoding chip can decode MPEG2 with 4:2:2 colorspace. This is what the confusion about the Fortec receiver revolved around. It's an apples and oranges kind of thing.

Stefan, that's what I think they feel that 4.2.2 is (colorspace) and not Chroma. I am waiting for someone to actually test it (that I trust) before I purchase it.

they list it as component out (ypbpr, support pixel format 4:2:2,4:2:0.I think this is about the picture and not the 4:2:2 that we want.I dont know the proper terms when it comes to this,is it called modulation, compression or another term.

Rick said on his site that he contacted Conaxsat and they told him the specs are still up in the air, and no one knows yet what it will or won't do.

My personal opinion, don't get your hopes up. Although I would LOVE for all of y'all to tell me I was a nutter when it comes out and does do it...:)

MPEG-2 @ Studio Profile is what you're looking for in the spec sheet.

Thanks, this is exactly what I was wondering. I knew better than to get my hopes up. This still looks like a pretty good reciever for the price, that's assuming that you don't have to spend another 150-200$ to add a 8qpsk modulation package on it like the pansat 9200hd. I don't own a HD STB yet , i do all of my hd through my twinhan pc card, and I am looking forward to purchasing my first hd stb. This looks like a good one, if it would only do 4:2:2 i would be ecstatic. I like the qualitv, but i don't really want to spend $700 on something that I would have to slave, plus i don't like that you cant blind search or edit channel names. Not ideal for a sports enthusiast IMO.

On second thought, why would they even go through the problems of configuring and advertising 4:2:2 out if the receiver couldn't even do 4:2:2?
