SORRY - title should say "Ebay" OOPS!

Been awhile since I looked - New Coolsat 6000's - $59.99 free shipping. What gives? I don't need a new receiver, but there are some cheap prices. Makes me wonder what's up :)

Yeah, I got an extra used Coolsat 5000 off of ebay for $35 a couple of months ago. Came from Canada & had hacked software, but it was like new & not a clone. I loaded v1.00 in it and it works great.

coolsat 4000,5000 and 6000 are pretty damn cheap on ebay.

I guess that they must not be getting good hack support. Maybe the hacker for coolsat boxes got busted...we can only hope.

Naaa...what happened is that they had a clone problem, and the clone boxes didn't work as well as the 'original' boxes. Freetech couldn't control the clones coming out and undercutting them on price, so they stopped selling the original Coolsats, and started selling the 6100, 7000,7100 series...that they can kill with clone killer hack firmware, should they ever be cloned. Protecting their illegal business. Remember there is no honor among theives. :D

This subject came up a few months ago, relative to good prices on the 'older' models.
At that time, I took a look and found that hacker support for the boxes had recently dried up.
But, Coolsat originals had gone out of production 9-12 months prior to the end of hacked firmware support.
One might assume the cloners kept support alive 'till they cleared out their warehouses...

And I wondered out loud, just how you would be able to tell a clone from an original 5000 or 6000.
. . . or maybe it just didn't matter for FTA.

I am really think of getting a Coolsat at those prices.

If I ordered a coolsat with 'hack' software on it, how would one get the original software back on it. I just need a receiver to watch hockey, Iceberg knows what team. I was using a PCI card but my computer wasnt able to keep up with the action, it was very jerky and skipped alot. I dont want anything fancy, just a simple reciever to watch hockey. Mind you I am new to this hobby. I havent yet explored further options beyond my love of hockey.

I picked up a nib coolsat 6000 from a dealer going out of business for 22 bucks two weeks ago. My first adventure into using the primestar 84e i scrounged up a couple years ago. I've been just using my bud for cband only. I saw those prices on ebay over the weekend and was considering another one for myself. The one I got is going to be a gift for my dad. Something for him to play around with.

All you need is just a serial cable and the factory software.

dhag

You can reload the factory software back onto it. All you need is a rs-232 cable (null modem I think...lemme check tonight when I get home) and reload factory firmware on it

Usually the receiver comes with the correct cable, I bought a Coolsat 6000 from EBay last December and it came with hacked software, so I got the latest software from the CoolsatUSA website.

I like this receiver very much. I picked the 6000 model over the 6100 because it is supported by the ChannelMaster editor.
