Well today's the big day for the Madden freaks but I still haven't seen any chatter on the boards. I have checked this forum several times throughout the day hoping to find a review of some sorts but so far nothing. Maybe everyone's been too busy playing the game instead of talking about it.

Everybody is too busy playing at this point.... either that or there are a lot of scorned PC Gamers who aren't getting Madden this year (will have to wait for Madden 2010)

I got mine today this morning. (360 Version)
All I have to say is: DO NOT PLAY ONLINE!
It took 5 minutes for the game to start, and the game was laggy as hell, I could barely throw the ball, for that matter even run the ball.
The game play is decent, however I hate the delay between plays that you have to wait, even when you are spamming X it won't work..
Overall after the first match I ejected the disc and started playing Madden 08 again.
I'd give it another 1-2 weeks to EA before I even dare to touch online.
Too many exploits, lag, and idiots on at this point.

BTW Tom Brady looks really lame, with 1 inch head and 10 inch body, god, EA designers are really stupid.
Anything that EA touches is lame at this point.

I don't mean to threadcrap but have these Madden games really changed that much in the past 5-6 years?? I used to play the new version every year but slowly it seemed like the improvements got smaller and smaller with each new year. To answer the OP's question I will not be buying or playing the game at all so that's why I'm not talking.

It's apparent how much they change every year by those who do still play them, this argument generally pops up in every thread about football games I've ever seen - by the people who don't play it.

There have certainly been some versions with fewer upgrades than others, but over the last several years I haven't had much to complain about features-wise other than the bare bones Madden 06 for the 360 which had none.

There are even videos EA put out this year comparing the differences, because to the uninitiated, what more could possibly be added?

Got it today, like what I've seen so far, but not going to pass judgment till I've had some time to play it.

You pretty much have to buy the new version every year for online play... no one left to play on the old version, plus EA used to shut off online service for a product after a certain point.

Those that do not feel there have been enough changes most likely will not buy and play the game. Those that feel there are enough changes will buy and therefore play the game.

Your argument is like saying people who don't like McDonalds don't eat there anymore. Of course they don't.

What could be added???? I tell you what can be added. The gameplay sucks in past years. I didn't get it last year because the previous years play sucks. You can pass for way too many yards and the fumbles and INT's were unrealisitc.

2k football games are far and away the best for gameplay. They are much more realisitc rather than arcadish.

When is the last time you fired up 2k5, and have you looked at how realistic the graphics are in the newest Madden? They were ahead of their time when that was released, and it's a shame they didn't realease more games. The ESPN integration in 2k5 was great, but gameplay and graphics in their recent non-branded 2k football game was love hate, with no middle ground...

Those that do not feel there have been enough changes most likely will not buy and play the game.
I agree with what you are saying, but generally those people don't say that they're content with what they have, or don't care enough about football to want to play the newer game, but instead just post 'lol, just another roster update' to reinforce their decision.

sadly, the NFL put the Kabosh in the 2K NFL line when they gave EA the exclusive right to produce NFL-branded video games until 2010 (and recently re-upped to 2013 [source])...

gg NFL - way to stick it to the fans!

As a new gamer and big football fan, 2K's All-Pro Football was the first game I bought (albeit used for 12 bucks). I liked it a lot after I figured out the controls and found the gameplay fun and relatively realistic. However, I soon got tired of the repetitive player chatter between plays and playing with all-stars from the 50s and 60s I never heard of.

After hearing about this year's improvements with Madden 09 (graphics and adaptive difficulty), I knew it was time pick one up and play with my current roster team. After playing one quick game last night, I can say the graphics are much better than 2K's and so far I have no issues with gameplay, though I'm only going up against the CPU. However, just like 2K's, the announcers oftentimes sound like they don't have a clue as to the situation in the game. (e.g. I ran a punt out of the end zone, getting only to the 5 yard line, and Chris Collingsworth commented on the great run back)

I walked into my local game store last night and bought it.

One big fix for the PS3 is the profile loading issue. In Madden 08, you could not load more than two profiles, and usually it would kick out the profile that had been loaded before.

I am one of those who is sick and tired of buying a new one every year for the past 4 years without any major improvements; yes graphics are better, but still, they need to move to a more realistic game where I am not beating the computer by 30 points plus in playoff and Superbowl games
