I didn't add them, as they wern't on Dish Network's website.

OH ' Well. They are on my receivers.

Those require HD Platinum pack.

True, but they aren't really premium. They were included with DishHD Absolute (although not available anymore, I still have them with no extra cost). The only reason they are separate is that they have no SD equivalent, so they don't match up with any SD pack. Of course, Direct's extra pack should be included, too.

Like juan said, Dish offers unstretched Smithsonian, MGM and HD Movies. My work here is done.

But for D* to have hyped this Fall launch for months and months, and then to deliver a grand total of 2 non-premium, non-RSN, non-PPV HD channels, is absurd.

Tom,
I highly doubt that this IS the Fall launch they were talking about, I think this was done as a prelude of things to come.

So, any word on when WGN HD will be available across the country ?
It would be nice to see the Cub's in HD when they are approaching the th4e playoffs for the first time in a long time....

I wanted to compile a list with just the basic channels. Channels where the subscriber doesn't pay extra for. The channels I got came directly from each providers website which were listed under comparable prices packages.

Actually, Every blakhawks game will be in HD this year. EVERY GAME! They signed a deal with WGNHD, and Comcast Sports Net Chicago with a couple mixed in there on NBC. All home and away games will be on one of those two channels. ;) I will be enjoying seeing Patrick Kane all everyone else.. Especally when were kicking the Islanders ass in the Stanley Cup :D

I doubt very much that the islanders will even see the playoffs next year. Enjoy your hockey team, especially Kane, Toews and Campbell, it is about time Chicago had a team again.

Maybe if you get lucky your Black Hawks will get to play Buffalo in the finals:cool:

Blackhawks are also playing a game at Wrigley Field I believe. I am not a fan of hockey really, but I sure would like to see a hockey game being played at Wrigley. It would be neat.

If you get a chance to go to the Winter Classic do so. I went to lasts year one at Ralph Wilson Stadium and it was awesome, even though we lost to the whiny kid Crosby.

from what satelliteracer at dbstalk.com has said.....not all of the contracts for new channels are finalized yet so the ppv channels are merely placeholders until new hd is launched.
So what do you suppose they were doing in the ensuing five months? Trying to avoid striking HD LIL agreements? They certainly knew that HBO and Cinemax would go full HD by the end of July.
however, and i say this in directv's defense, when dtv11 was launched this spring, no new hd was anticipated before september so we are probably about a month early with new hd.
Not anticipated by whom? There's more than the number of HD PPV channels that DIRECTV recently launched that are being offered by other carriers and more than a handful of them are getting "where is it?" complaints.

Think maybe DirecTV kept the additions simple to keep the resolutions looking awesome on DirecTV MPEG4 Sunday Ticket?.Hmmm? Could be?.;)
I'm sure that those who want Travel HD or WGN wouldn't consider tying up their bandwidth for a "channel" that offers programming for eight hours or less per week acceptable.

No word, and you share my exact feelings, this channel should have been in the works for a while given D*'s sports leadership position - especially when E* picked it up.

UGH.

NFL requires a portion of channels reserved for Sunday. Much like MLB, NBA, and NHL do. NFL requires significantly more than the others, because these are not on the RSNs, so many are dedicated feeds.

That said, using PPV channels and the dedicated sport slots make this pretty easy.

MLB overlaps NFL by one month. So, for 4 Sundays, don't add HD OTA, SD4, CSN Philly, and Toronto feeds. Stick with just the RSN feeds for those Sundays. That takes care of a portion of NFL ST. Now, turn off some PPV for 6 hours, there is the rest.

Simply trying to say they don't need 8-14 dedicated channel slots for NFL. Maybe a few, but NFL is not going to be a bandwith issue when it comes to D* adding new channels.

Not to mention, that many 1p & 4p games can use the same bandwith, provided they manually manage any games that go past 4:15 or so. With that in mind, you could run PPVs up to 4pm, then restart them at 5pm. PPV HD won't even be down long.

and as someone else here pointed out. those contracts might very well be signed but might not start until mid-september. you can't start airing a channel until the begin date in the contract.

I know it is only the beginning of the fall launch, but still, I wouldn't have even bother with an announcement if this was all it was going to be. And why pad it with 18 PPVs just to say you have 130?

It is kinda like GM saying they are now going to start producing more fuel efficient vehicles, make a big splashy announcement that the future begins now, introduce a vehicle that gets 1 more mpg than the current car along with 4 more that get better mileage except that they are only going to make 50 of each for now, and then claiming that they have 5 new higher mileage vehicles.

Where's the Beef?

This answer is the one that makes the most sense.;)

I don't have HD yet but I can just about guarantee you that I can already see channels that DirecTV doesn't have up that are already coming in on my package in downrezzed HD.;)

Not wanting to start a flame war - this is an actual question...

I have Dish now and will be dropping them sooner the later. Not counting RSN's or Paid movies just national and locals. What does DirecTV have that Dish doesn't and vise versa?

thanks in advance
John
