FOX NEWS HD - Where are you?

I was watching the Fox News Channel on Sunday. The anchor mentioned that would be the last news cast from that studio because, after the political conventions, Fox News Channel would be broadcasting in HD with a new set being built. Along those lines, and considering the lawsuite between E and Fox, I have a question. If Dish has the SD version of a channel such as Fox News, FX, Spike.. does E still need to negotiate for the right to carry the HD version of the same channels. I thought I heard the providers of the SD channel versions do not charge the carriers additional fees for HD content.

I don't know either. Although, I feel I can safely surmise that a FOAD is some sort of cross between a frog and a toad. Sounds like a fascinating creature, but I'm not sure what that has to do with Fox News HD.

Sometimes FOAD is shorthand for f*** off and die.

Just to clear a few things up:

1) Anyone notice that Dish Network is the official HD provider for the Democratic National Convention? Hint: That is not because of any Colorado Connection.

2) Anyone notice that the Bush Administration fed talking points to Fox News and Fox News used them?

What does this have to do with anything? Most of the world is well aware that Rupert Murdoch's Politics are somewhere to the right of Sean Hannity. And his networks reflect it.

What most people don't know is Charlie Ergen leans pretty heavily left on that political scale.

So I imagine that like most leftists (including me, by the way) Charlie in insulted by the Fox News montras of "fair and balanced" and "we report, you decide". So if HD space is at a premium, Fox News and Fox Business News are about the last things you are likely to see in HD. Unfortunately, Speed and FX are caught in this mess, as well.

That does not mean that all of Charlie's decisions are based on Politics. I am sure that if there was a true groundswell of support for either of the Fox Business or Fox News channels, he would have to think differently. But Fox Business is not ESPN, or even CNBC. For most people it is not a "must have".

I do have an answer for when you will get Fox News HD and possibly Fox Business HD: November or December. Why? That is when the Retransmission rights expiire for Fox owned and operated local stations. And since Fox carries the NFL, those local stations are "must haves". So at that point we will probably get all the fox channels in exchange for Dish keeping the locals turned on.

I watch these forums a lot, and I just can't understand why topics that have to do with Fox News or CNN or other channels always have to become a political football. It doesn't really matter whether you're conservative, liberal or moderate. If the decisions on what programming is provided to the subscriber is in part determined by political beliefs or views, then that demonstrates absolutely poor business judgment. Fox News, no matter what you think of the channel is by far the most watched cable news network in the country. So, this whole "if there's a groundswell of support" for Fox News, then maybe it gets added business is silly. The groundswell is seen in the ratings seen over the past 10 years. And this applies for any channel. Rupert Murdoch and Charlie Ergen's political views and disagreements have nothing to do with providing their customers the best possible product, and if it does, then we'll see where they end up. BTW, didn't Murdoch endorse Hillary?

That is a great point, you took the words right out off my mouth, so I went out and found a DIFFERENT way to make my point:

Rebecca Gomez in HD!!!!!

And perhaps Dish shouldn't care about this one. They are being stomped by CNBC:
washingtonpost.com

I bet the World Fishing Network gets more viewers.

There was also a day when Kmart was blowing Walmart away. Fox Business is a new channel, like Walmart was one day a new store. Everybody, everything, every channel, every store, needs to get their start somewhere. Nobody expected them to exit the starting box in first place. It will take time. Don't forget the fact that many providers don't yet even offer the channel.

Took several years for Fox News to overtake CNN, along with not making a profit thru those years. Murdock may be in it for the long term again with Fox Business.

They have actually planned on it taking about three years. It has only been on the air about nine months and the folks that hate Fox News are already pointing out the small numbers, as if it is a total failure.

I don't hate Fox News, I hate all the 24 hour news channels. Nothing but fear mongers, all of them. The old style Headline News was the closest thing to a worthwhile 24 hour news channel as they stuck to the headlines, so you only needed to tune in for 15 minutes to get news.

The 24 hour news cycle on the cable channels is only trying to give people what they want. I know people that watch one news channel or the other every chance they get. While you are right that you can get a full days news in 15 minutes or less, that does nothing to sell advertising time. If they can get somebody to tune into their channel for six hours straight, sitting through all those ads, then they can keep up their ratings and make more of a profit. In this day of DVRing everything, sports and news are about the only thing most of us watch in real time anymore, thus, we actually see the ads during that type of programming. I think advertisers will be turning to both news and sports more so than they have already, just to make sure we see them.

I like Fox News because they give me the NEWS, and not just their OPINION of the News. There are shows on FN that offer their opinion of the News ie: Hannity/Colmes Bill O'Reilly...etc. But if you want NATIONAL or WORLD News, I always trust Fox News.

I can confirm that they are provided free because my rinky dink community cable provider added all the free HD channels to our basic cable, this included Fox News and Fox Business. Also included were ESPN, ESPN2, TBS, History, A&E, LMN, CNN, Comcast SportsNet, and one or two more.

Interesting, that's the same reason I love NPR and The Daily Show:). I think all news providers spin the news to match the writer's/editor's opinions. We are just less apt to notice when that opinion matches ours.

Everyone has a political agenda. Sometimes it's obvious (Fox, MSNBC), sometimes it's not (Bill Gates, Charlie Ergen). IF you are dealing with a person or organization in business or they are providing you information, better that you know the agenda. Otherwise you are going to be easily manipulated.
