DirecTV's 1080p via VoD

Well, channel 1080 is working fine for me now.

I started the download, it did 20% in 2 hours on my conservative 1.5MB connection.

I watched about 15 minutes, the quality looks great.
I previously watched this movie on bluray, and from what I can tell it looks as good on 1080p D* VOD.

That said, I only have a 720p projector, so my test environment is limited.

Very glad to see they are making progress on 1080p movies.
They choose a good one, and it is FREE to the CE testers on channel 1080. This movie has some very nice scenery shots from all sorts of places, the mountain shots at the begining and end are truly very good.

I also like the D* 1080p method versus what E* is doing.

It just plays, no warnings or anything. If you have it on native, it will go 1080p. If not, it plays on what you have it set for. I like this better than the E* system running test to see if your TV can handle it first. If the TV can't handle it, they just need to not use native for the movie.

The download is actually going faster than I thought it would (though I'm not sure if that's a good thing)

Question: I started the download last night and tried to see how it was at 25% downloaded, but the receiver wouldn't play it. I hit Play and all I got was the blue light blinking to indicate that it received the remote's command. Is this normal?

In the release notes (I believe) it said you could not use the "play" on the screen while the download is in progress. However, you could use the "play" button on your remote and it would start. I just highlighted the download in My Playlist then hit the remote play button and it began playing.

Ahhhh...

this does not work on the hr21 does it?

it is playing but black screen native mode 480p on the lights..

my tv is 1080p

Remote will not respond..

my movie downloaded fine, the pic quailty is awesome, plays back great, on my hr20 65 in full 1080p mitsubshi tv, when it plays back both the 720p and the 1080i lights are lit up.

HR21-100 here. I'm still on the CE 0X25e firmware from 8/1. Haven't had a chance to grab the newer ones yet.

Have Channel 1080 in guide. Downloaded and played the movie as long as I had native off and the Res set to 1080i. It also played while I was downloading it by choosing PLAY in MY PLAYLIST . When I turned native on, video went out and the receiver would not respond to any remote commands (front light wouldn't blink when pressing a remote button). I have a Samsung 1080p Plasma.

For grins I tried it with my Dell W3201C, which is a 720p panel from my other HR20-700, set the DVR to native output like the instructions said and bingo, played just fine, TV said it was a 1080i source.

Can you describe how much better that 1080i looked?

I know this is designed for the HR20 right now.. but when i watch the film in 1080i The audio i get is not Dolby Digtal.. Just Prologic on my system... all the other hd channels work fine for Dolby digital..

Just wanted to see if i am the only one having the audio issue.

I just came across this thread, and I tried to find the 1080p channel as described (go to directv.com, tvschedule, directv on demand, find 1080p). Unfortunately that channel is not listed. Is it showing up for others still, or did I miss the opportunity?

Just enter 1080 on your remote, it should take you to the 1080p test DoD channel.

Well I downloaded the newest CE software version and now I can't get any OnDemand movies to show up at all. Everything is grayed out. I wonder if it downloaded an old software version by mistake. Thanks for any help.
