N.Y. METS R.I.P. (Part 2)

how did the yankees do? :haha

I have no problem with them making the playoffs 13 years in a row, and missing this year. And with that said, if the Tampa Rays had their typical year the Yanks probably would have been the wild card.

That being said, I think Tampa having a breakout year is great for baseball and I hope they go far in the playoffs.

The Mets, though - eeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

That's dumb. If the Brewers had their typical year the Mets probably would have been the wild card.

yea, almost same amount of wins as the yankees while spending $70 million less (mets 89-73, yankees 89-72) !sadroll

But the Mets DO HAVE the highest payroll in the National League, don't they?

Yep - and the Mets play in as tough a division as the Yankees do as well. I'd like to see them play Boston 19 times a year.

Accept it - another Mets CHOKE.

haha, funny thing is.. I'm a Red Sox fan

Yankees 40-31 vs AL East
Mets 40-32 vs NL East

yea, it's the divisional play

What does being a Red Sox fan have to do with the Mets choking the past 3 weeks this year and the last month of last season?

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Nobody in New England that leans towards the Red Sox/Patriots wants to see any NY team do well. Outside of the Giants winning the Super Bowl I am relishing this. First Yankees go down and now 2 years of Mets choking. I am a Phillies fan so its a cool thing. Plus I think the Brewers have the best name and boy do those fans need a playoff. I hope they win it all. Sick of the same damn teams in baseball always winning.

If that is true, then New Englanders need to get over 1986. Just about all Mets fans I know are more or less indifferent to Boston except when it comes to them kicking the Yanks' collective ass. Otherwise, there's not much consideration from the National League side anyway.

Funny thing about the Phillies is that from what I notice anyway - is that the Phillies are more on this 'rivalry' thing against the Mets then Mets fans are. I mean, yes - two years in a row, there are strong feelings. But as a whole - Atlanta still seems to be the real 'rivalry' that the Mets have in the NL East. I don't think the Phillies have much of a rivalry with any team and they're trying to latch onto this Mets thing as much as possible. I dunno, maybe it's the 21.5 game lead in 1986. Man, you all have to get over 1986. That was a long time ago. :)

Yup. And they finished a lot closer to first than the joke from the Bronx did. Enjoy paying the luxury tax for the 5th year in a row. Funny they keep raising the limit each year and yet it's still nowhere nearly as high as your payroll.

Also enjoy watching Torre do this October what's he's been doing for years, but for another team. L O L Nice tribute to him during the closing ceremonies at Yankee Stadium. NOT.

Wow! the AP actually scooped ESPN on something sports related!

the AP just broke that in addition to a new stadium in 2009, the Mets are changing names, logo and team colors.

They will be known as the New York Chokers, the logo will be a baseball with a noose around it, and the team colors will be red and black.

Mets suits added in the news item that for the sake of the children, they won't have Mr. Choker (formerly Mr. Met) wear a noose around his neck.
