I guess I will learn my fate as early as Saturday. Last season whenever the Penguins games were shown on the NHL Network I would get blacked out, in CLEVELAND. For some reason they felt I was in PA. I would call Dish and they would simply tell me to tune in to FSN-Pit. Well, we all know that because I am in Ohio, I get FSN-Ohio. No matter who I talked to though at Dish, it never got resolved. Now, a new season is here and the Pens are on the NHL Network Saturday afternoon. I better get to watch the game, if I dont, then I dont know what I am going to do. The crazy thing is that when the Pens are on NHL CI, the games were not blacked out, even though it was the FSN-Pit feed. Therefore, whose issue is this really, Dish, or the NHL and the NHL Network?

This needs to be fixed. I need my fix of hockey!:hungry:

Good Luck, it seems Charlie and his Klan are more interested in catching pirates than taking care of his subs. That is why I left.

"After 5 years with Dish, I am switching to Directv to watch the Buffalo Sabres in HD."

I don't blame you. I'm thinking about doing the same. I hate to switch over this one issue, but Charlie's arrogance really irks me. And the added insult of a $10 increase with no improvement over last years dismal SD broadcasts is an additional slap in the face that keeps me from getting CI from Dish this season...

I myself will be leaving E* when At&t gets D*. All I care about is programing. DVR's, cost, bla bla bla means nothing to me. And D* is to me the leader in giving what the customer wants and thats programming. And the funny thing is when you see the new turbo commercials, all you see is sports. Football, baseball, NASCAR, all in the commercial. Now thats funny:D . E* has none of those channels or packages. Comcast has better sports that E*. The turning point for me was MLB EI. And I also get blackouts when the SJ Sharks are on the NHL Network. I couldn't even watch the Sharks in the playoffs on Vrs's in HD on E*. My buddy had D* and was able to watch it no ploblem. The sad part is I've been a E* customer since 1996. Lame:mad:

The sports owners have HUGE blackout maps, they are regional blackouts and their thinikng is that you can drive to the stadium even if its a days drive dont know exactly the distance.

Unlike with DirecTV you can check your blackout status today. Just go to the game in the EPG and press info. A blackout symbol will show if you are blacked out. Blackouts are usually assigned 2 days before the event.

Well this is good news for people that have NHL Network:

NEW YORK – With more live game coverage than ever before, NHL Network™ today unveiled its U.S. broadcast schedule for the 2008-09 regular season. It includes 75 regular-season games, all in HD.

Highlighting the schedule is the inclusion of CBC's award-winning Hockey Night In Canada, now available to U.S. fans through NHL Network for the first time. Every Saturday night, NHL Network will not only broadcast the live Hockey Night In Canada double-header, but also the CBC pre-game show Scotiabank Hockey Tonight and post-game show After Hours.

Regular-season coverage on NHL Network gets underway in the U.S. on Saturday, Oct. 4 when the New York Rangers take on the Tampa Bay Lightning in Prague, Czech Republic and the Ottawa Senators and Pittsburgh Penguins meet in Stockholm, Sweden, in the Bridgestone NHL Premiere 2008™.

Additional highlights for the 2008-09 NHL broadcast schedule include:
* Live NHL games every Saturday night throughout the season
* 26 double-headers and 1 triple-header
* 17 Wednesday-night games featuring TSN's broadcast of Wednesday Night Hockey
* 5 games featuring the Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings
* 7 games featuring the Pittsburgh Penguins and Sidney Crosby
* 2 games featuring the Washington Capitals and last season's Hart Trophy winner Alex Ovechkin
* 5 original NHL Network game productions

"NHL Network is an important platform in super-serving our fans with the hockey content they demand, 24 hours a day," said John Shannon, NHL Executive Vice President of Broadcasting and Programming. "With top-quality production of marquee match-ups on a consistent schedule, in addition to new original programming, NHL Network is creating appointment television for hockey fans nationwide."

NHL Network is the first 24-hour network dedicated to the National Hockey League with unprecedented access to the most comprehensive hockey coverage both on and off the ice. In addition to live NHL games, NHL Network will broadcast live college hockey and the Memorial Cup. The network also airs post-game press conferences, special event programming on-location from NHL events such as NHL Winter Classic™, NHL All-Star weekend, NHL Entry Draft and the Stanley Cup™ Final and its signature daily live highlight show – NHL on the Fly – which airs nightly throughout the hockey season.

NHL Network is now accessible to more than 80 million homes through all of its carriage arrangements, including those with Cablevision, Charter Communications, Comcast, Cox Communications, DIRECTV, DISH Network® and Time Warner Cable. NHL Network launched in the U.S in October of 2007 and in Canada in 2001. This is the second season NHL Network will broadcast live NHL games in the U.S.

Unfortunately the territotial rules rear their ugly head..I would imagine that the Pens claim the Cleveland market as part of their territory.
My thinking is if a team claims an area as pert of it's home territory that team MUST provide a local feed to their televised games. If not, that team should not be permitted to black out games in that area from a pay type sports subscription service.

ALL THE CBC HOCKEY NIGHT GAMES IN HDTV!!!!!!!!!!!! YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JUST LIKE I REQUESTED!!!!!!! I AM A HERO! ONLY TOOK 832663563235 EMAILS!

Well it is official. I dont know who to blame, but once again, the Penguins are on the NHL network and I am not able to watch. The issue is, I dont know who is to blame. E* of the NHL and the NHL Network. So stupid. I was so happy I was able to watch the first game, then I see the national anthem thinking yes, and suddenly BAM, out it goes, not available in my area. I am so angry right now, I want to call E*, but I know they will just tell me to flip to a station that I dont get because they are clueless as it is.

sounds like you're in Penguins claimed territory, if you order Sports Pack, you should be able to get FSN Pit and FSN Ohio/STO

Here's the terms of service as set by NHL NETWORK.....
Terms of Use - The NHL Network
I must point out that your insistence on blaming your provider(Dish) is inaccurate.
Dish does not contrl NHL NETWORK's terms. Your beef is with thw NHL.

WHY IS EVERYONE ANGRY WITH **ANY** PROVIDER WHEN IT'S THE CONTENT-CREATORS CONTROLLING EVERYTHING?

Christ on a cross people, use some common sense. Why do we have the NFL Network when it used to be "free" (you still have to pay for cable/satellite) on ESPN/locals? Why do we have ESPN when it used to be free OTA on local networks? Why do I have to pay more/month for price increases?.... It's because the providers are creating pay networks that are no better than what we had originally and then charging [ provider ] more for it, which is then passed to the consumer.

Think.

I have to disagree with you n part. The fact that eevnts are now on pay tv leads to far more choices. In the old days before cable and sat, we as viewers had very limited choics as to what games we would see. we were at the mercy of the then three major networks.. Now there are literally hundreds of choices in a given week..Heck college sports has exploded. I bet there are no fewer than 15 NCAA football games televised on a given saturday.....PLease, the coverage isn't any better? C'mon. Be realistic.

Realistic?

Realistic is that companies pay millions for commercials, yet I still have to pay to see the commercials that are paid for...

Watch Monday Night Football once and you'll agree. Besides, it was only limited because the companies didn't want to buy the rights. Now it's not because we're paying out the ass for it :)

we're not paying for the programming. we're paying for the technonlogy and the availablity...W/O commercials we have pay per view..and that would be VERY EXPENSIVE
Look at the cost of a sh!tty boxing match..50 bucks. Until we all agree to pay per view or it is foisted upon us, commercials are a way of tv life. Just hit the mute button

dishcomm:

We are most definitely paying for the programming, so I don't know who lied to you but you need to kick them. Just because we ALSO pay for tech/avail, that doesn't negate the fact that the content creators charge the pay-providers a fee to have their programming.
