Can you recall missing important NFL games for those that were 'regional?'

Some of us who don't have NFL Sunday ticket, have a satelite or cable are stuck with only watching the limited NFL games because of location and region.

Without those, I am mainly stuck with Packers and Bears game, a far cry from the NFC East/Steelers games I usuallt would see opposite Bills games when I lived in Buffalo
(Bills had a string of Monday night games, so I saw much better football games on those Sundays)

This has happened numerous times to me.

Last year- The Cowboys and Giants had a big game at Giants Stadium, but I was stuck with Bears/Raiders.

2003- Undefeated Broncos vs. Undefeated Chiefs (I'm not making this up- K.C. was a good team that year) at Arrowhead, but I was stuck with Raiders/Bears.

1997- There was a big game in December between the Broncos and Steelers, but I was stuck with ANOTHER meaningless Bears game- and it was against Buffalo, who lost!

1995- Remember that Cowboys/Eagles game when Barry Switzer didn't punt TWICE on fourth down? Much better than the Bears/Bengals game I saw.

Has this ever happened to you?

The Patriots vs. Colts during week 9 of last year. Going into that game, both teams were undefeated. This game was broadcast at 4pm. At the same time, my Browns were playing the Seahawks on the same CBS station that showed the Pats/Colts game to the entire nation outside of Seattle and Cleveland.

As a solution, I just went to my favorite sports bar that had the Sunday Ticket and watched both at the same time. Both games ended up being great, especially my Browns. They ended up winning in OT.

I thought that game was on FOX.

When an NFC team visits an AFC team, the game is televised on FOX.

Here I thought you were in Buffalo :D

Let me clear things up: My family moved from Buffalo to Wisconsin in July 1994.

In fact, my last night in Buffalo was the same night as the MLB All-Star Game- the one in Pittsburgh that went extra innings?

I guess that I'm somewhat lucky in that I live in a non-NFL market.

The local CBS station use to have a Raider Fixation but that has completely dissipated. :)
Now they show mainly the national games.....Nantz/Simms or Gumbel/Dierdork.

The local FOX station is a bit more helter skelter, for some reason they almost always on single games take the early game even if the late game is the national game or has more regional interest.

If there is a game that I'm truly interested in and it's not on locally I have a Sports Bar 2 blocks away....and in case your wondering they open at 6am on Sat. and 7am on Sun.

don't have that issue...between my FTA setup & Starchoice I dont miss the"big games" just because the Queens are on

Interesting map :

Houston and Oakland played and it was shown in the Houston area but NOT Oakland (the home team game was not shown, thats nice)
and the Cleveland market got ???? Nothing ? neither game ?

Oakland specialty...blackout :D

they got the early game due to the rule of the home team
"when a team is at home, NO game can go against it in the local market"...thats why Cleveland had only the early game

Correct, but because the Browns were playing at home, Cleveland doesn't get the doubleheader. So on that particular day, Cleveland would get a 1 pm CBS game and then the Seahawks-Browns on Fox.

The reason I know this is because the same situation has happened in the Boston market several times.

EDIT: sorry Iceberg, you beat me to it.

The reason the Seattle market got the Pats-Colts game (as Iceberg showed on the map), is because the Seahawks were on the road that week. Seattle would have gotten an early game from CBS, and then both Seahawks-Browns and Pats-Colts on Fox and CBS respectively.

Care to give us some examples, Billy? That's the theme of this thread- remembering instances when we could not seeing important games in favor of less-than-important games that are regionaly close.

I can't remember examples off the top of my head, but trust me, there were many examples when the Pats sucked and the Boston DMA was shut out of a superior game.

I'll bet the 1990 team robbed you from seeing meaningful games.

Yup, I really missed watching a real NFL team that year!

The one good thing about '90 was no home games were shown here, including a nationally televised late Saturday afternoon game in December.
