Philadelphia Phillies are the World Champions for 2008

To Ramy's point, Wednesday night was the first time my 14 year old son has ever been awake to
witness the conclusion of a World Series. He was thrilled. I'm certain there are thousands of other kids out there
(except maybe Rays fans) who feel the same way. It would be nice if MLB ever affords us an opportunity like this again
but we all know that's not going to happen.

If the Cubs have a curse for going 100 seasons without a championship, how is that any different than the city of Philadelphia missing out on 100 potential titles through its four major sports teams (25 years x 4 championships per year)? One hundred different seasons in a row is a lot, especially for a large market city.

Because there are cities with MUCH longer droughts than Philly.

Take for instance Cleveland. They last won a championship in 1964. (Prior to the Super Bowl by the Browns). Cleveland has 3 major sports teams. The Indians last won a World Series in 1948. The Cavs have NEVER won a Championship. So, forgive me for thinking the measly 25 year drought by Philly is nothing to wine about.

And by your math, Cleveland has gone 132 years without a Championship! (3 teams x 44 years since last title).

Ducky, Jimmy, Ehren.......WE WON!!

Damn, that felt good! I would also like to take this moment to thank DirecTV for affording me the opportunity to witness about 150 games this year at home here in Columbus, (saw the other ones live in Philly, my home town, and went to Pittsburgh for that series.)

Go Phils!! Ordering the family WS Chams tees and hats now, and oh yes, how about a couple of those hats they wore on the field with the back flaps, I will finally be able to wear my baseball cap in the winter.

What a week for us Philly guys, WS Victory, Flyers finally gt on track with what 3 or 4 straight, and of ourse Penn State beats the Luckeyes. Tried to tell my kids to take it all in, doesn't come along very often if ever for many!

Now THAT'S a curse!

Absolutely. Cleveland's drought has been worse. That doesn't mean that Philly hasn't had a drought. It is possible for more than one city to be suffering with their sports teams.

Don't forget Sabresrules! He hasn't had any championships!:D How many years is it Sabre? What's your curse?

I seem to remember a game that was forfeited by the "Believeland" Indians when they had free beer night. Probably no one else on this forum will choose to remember but it did happen. I don' think Philly has ever had a forfeit. Fools populate every ball park and city. No matter what team wins any championship there is unwarranted destruction. It has nothing to do with being fans. It is only an excuse for drunken rioting. I would be surprised if more than one percent of those rioting were sober. It is amazing how when your team loses the winner was not really the better team. Oh well, we are entitled to your opinion.

Congrats to our Phillie's fans here. A long overdue party, I'm sure. You guys have endured a lot of bad baseball in that city. I hope it was a uneventful party, your city has got a bad reputation among fans from other cities, many of which have been chronicled here. Glad to hear you guys had fun last night.

The event you are referring to was "10-cent Beer Night" in 1974. At the time, the old Municipal Stadium had trouble attracting fans to fill the 78,000 seats, so they decided on a promotion to attract a crowd. The idea was a disaster waiting to happen. :D

And I don't think our fans are better than yours by posting that video. I just thought it was funny.

This is proof there is not a thread on this board you can't make about Cleveland!!!...

Um, go back and check who I was responding to. I did not make this into a Cleveland thread. I wasn't even the one to bring Cleveland into this! I was simply responding to someone who compared Philly fans to 10-cent beer night in Cleveland.

Um, go back and check which post I was referring to...post #22 was you bringing up Cleveland having a longer drought. You didn't respond to the 10 cent beer night post (which never mentioned Cleveland by name) until post 36!!!...

But whatever...sorry I brought it up!!!...;)
