From DirecTV:

As a result of the Sirius XM merger, XM is going to remove some of the XM channels provided to DIRECTV at midnight EST on November 12th.
The channels coming down are
1) Oprah and Friends
2) The Rhyme
3) Raw
4) Beyond Jazz
5) High Standards
6) Fine Tuning
7) Chrome
8) VOX
9) Aguila
10) Vibra
11) Caricia
12) Viva
13) The Virus

XM will also add three channels

1) Hair Nation (classic hard rock)
2) Coffeehouse
3) The Bridge (not available until 1/1/09)

In addition, more music channels will be coming soon (hopefully in the next week to two weeks - still TBD) in place of some of those XM channels lost. The additional channels will not be from XM.

A website with most of the changes (the new music channels will appear there when ready to launch) will be up and running starting tomorrow night at:
http://www.directv.com/musicchanges

Also of note, there will be three holiday music channels coming. One will start on November 12th with the additional two coming soon thereafter.

A couple things to note, other channels will be changing names and programming to mirror Sirius music.

No word on what the new stations may be (could be additional sirius or some other source?)

The Directv changes web site may not be up for another day or so.

What about E* people with Sirius stations? Anyone know if that is changing?

In an effort to save you money, and keep rates fair, Charlie is converting all Sirius stations to a looping play of Village People albums.

Ouch

No really, nothing is changing at Sirius, your stuff will stay the same.
XM stations are being replaced with Sirius ones.

Oh lovely.... I'd already planned on getting rid of XM (2 subscriptions) since they are scrapping or changing the few music stations I like to Sirius stations. Now I won't be able to listen to O&A at home after I get rid of XM, even if I want to on my DirecTV. Nice. I guess I won't be listening to them anymore. This merger stinks and I'll bet a lot of people are going to get rid of their service.

Goodbye XM.... it'll save me a couple hundred a year.

Wish they would add Comedy XL or Laugh USA :(

They are definatly not going to add Comedy XL (150). they might be able to add the other comedy channel, but the XL has X rated language, they are not going to open themselves up for that type of trouble ...
The other Comedy channel would be a possibility (151)

Are you talking about on D* or XM or Sirius ?

Howard Stern has NEVER been on D*, is still on Sirius and now on XM as well.

Only D* as this is the D* section. Some posts were seeming to indicated that O&A are being removed from the D* XM selection. They could of been meaning XM or Sirius in their entirety I don't know now.

O&A are being removed from DirecTV, however they will remain on XM and can also be heard on Sirius with the "Best of XM" add on package.

I don't see how this is any different than Skinimax or Showtime. That is what parental block is for. It can block the XM stations the same way it blocks the other channels. I don't see your reasoning as a reason for them not to put such a channel on. They had The Virus and they use "naughty language."

You make a good point ... I hadn't thought about the Parental block stuff.

I think they are taking The Virus off and will keep other unique content stations off DirecTV so they can keep some value with an actual subscription to the XM service. I fully intend on getting rid of XM since they are doing away with my stations but I had planned on listening to The Virus over DirecTV from home in the morning. It isn't worth it for me to keep XM just for them, but some people might keep XM just for the Virus that would have otherwise got rid of it because they could have listened to it on DirecTV.

They'll end up all music on DirecTV. If you want the unique stuff, you'll have to pay for an XM subscription.

Maybe DirecTV might pick up some of the Worldspace channels that have either never been carried by XM, or have been demoted to "Online Only" by XM.
