Should there be any audio improvements with the MPEG-4 conversion too?? I watched parts of Transformers yesterday on HBO HD (300) and compared it to a recording I made from the same channel last week. While I'm no audiophile, it seemed to me that the rear surrounds were more active (or at least more distinct).

Yes, and there no such "MPEG-4 codec" - audio encoding by AC-3 specs.
You telling same thing by different word, but miss hall's post.

Pfffffffff...

Clear as ever, Smith, P.

H.264/AVC == mpeg4 Part 10 and there are lots of encoders and decoders.

Just come out and say what you mean.

Through my crude searching efforts I see that AC3 is essentially DD 5.1.

Does anyone know if there is there an updated AC3 codec that came along with MPEG-4??

From the MPEG group's website, they say that MPEG is "the development of standards for coded representation of digital audio and video".

Is "codec" an improper word ? Maybe... Only you would point it out though. Did everyone else understand what I meant ? I'd venture to say they did.
