Anyone ever heard of the Canadian Football League, or CFL?

In Canada, they have some unique rules for football:

It's really cool.

I've been to some games (I grew up in Buffalo, which is very close to Canada- it is fun, but the weather can be COLD!).

Favorite teams, BTW, are the Toronto Argonauts and the Calgary Stampeders (got to support someone from each division)

actually its not a minor leagues...its a professional league.

Heard of it??? LOVE the CFL.....in my mind its much better than the No Fun League

3 downs
passing is used a lot
NO FAIR CATCHES (aka no pu**ies here...ya gotta run the punt back)
multiple guys in motion
awesome celebrations after the TD...some guys get the whole crew involved
and the rouge (single)

lots of guys that the NFL says arent "good" enough go there and actually put on a helluva show.

obviously you havent seen it then and decided to make some smartass remark. Peyton wouldn't like it there...it would probably be too cold for him and he would get chapped lips

These guys play because they LOVE the game. Not to collect some big time paycheck. There have been a few QB's and WR who could either be way down on the depth chart because somebody got a huge contract from a team or play in Canada where they can showcase their talents.

plus a lot fo these guys play D-IAA or DII football so the NFL doesnt even look at these guys. The CFL will take them. Lots of good guys there

Big fan in So. Cal.
Another reason I was so upset to loose Voom and Worldsport.
This year sucked not watching the playoffs and Grey Cup.

Definitely nothing minor league about the level of play, maybe though just as much league management issues as any other pro sport.

It is bigger, wider football still played with real heart.
I love the Blue Bombers and BC Lions

The CFL is nice, but no one should think that any player there is not there for reasons other than not making it in the NFL. There is nothing wrong with that.

The CFL tried a US expanision back in the 90s. It was a nice effort. Teams in Sacramento, Las Vegas, Baltimore (this was post-Colts and pre-Ravens), Shreveport, San Antonio, Birmingham, and Memphis (the last two get a team in every failed league that ever gets tried). It was good football. The NFL arranged for Baltimore to get the Ravens and that was that.

I agree.....the brass of the NFL has turned it just a cash cow. Seems like the only time anyone smiles is when the league or the player signs a big fact contract.

I just never get into it for some reason. I'm sure it's fine for some, but between the NFL, college, high school, and my nephew's Pop Warner, my football plate is full.

I don't think I've ever seen a CFL game before. Do they play on a 100yard field? If so, is it converted to meters in Canada?

No the field is all screwed up. It's 110 yards and the end zones are like 20 yards deep with goal posts on the goal line.

The field is also 11 1/2 yards wider. Makes for some wide open plays.
Having multiple people in motion, an extra player on the field (12 instead of 11), and a wider field makes for some great action.

they use both ;)

I think they keep it consistent for sports.

When I speak to Canadian folks for my job they usually say the temp in Fahrenheit...unless its a rep in Quebec...then its metric all the way :)
