Circuit City to Shut down

Yep, didn't seem to be any other likely outcome.

Aren't they the ones that fired their more experienced sales critters and just kept a few cheap newbies? I hope others learn from this example.

And I doubt I'll buy anything in close out.

4th and 25 from your own goalline....and your best QB is hurt. A slim chance indeed!

I hate to see CC fold like this. It was my favorite big box retailer just a few years back. But even if I didn't know the bigger picture I could have predicted this outcome just from the decline of my local store in the interim. Low inventory and even lower morale of the few remaining employees. I left there empty handed more than once lately...and empty hearted...

Yup they did and thats when I stopped shopping there.

I doubt I will eaither. When I went there in December most of the products they had on the shelf were old models. For example for Slingboxes they had the SLingbox Classic and Slingbox solo. No pro, no pro HD etc... In TV's again most of the sets were last years models. This company has been in trouble for a long long time.

I am truly disappointed, as the CC we had in Western Colorado was an excellent store; with excellent staff; great product selection, and excellent customer service. BB sucks in comparison.

That said, the CC we have here in Bloomington is fairly lame; just not the same atmosphere. But I am sad to see it go - CC has been my favorite electronics retailer for a LONG time. And Best Buy's customer service and return policies just don't cut it. :(

i too like cc and am not a fan of local company best buy, but due to having 5 bb closer to me then cc i do most of my brick and motor electronics shopping at bb

i wish it was other way bb closing down and cc enjoying success

I stopped going to CC after I moved to Illinois. I wrote some of it off to regional differences, but there never seemed to be a reason to go there, with one exception. I'm going to miss the Verizon store in CC. The actual Verizon stores areound here have an attitude. You seem to sit around waiting for an hour for any service, even when there is nobody in the store.

In my line of work I work with those losing jobs, and when I visit companies that have liquadators involved, I learned from them they are not there "To give stuff Away"

Like I said earlier, When I was at a store that was not scheduled to close, you just got the feeling that things were not going well in the store

They followed the exact same pattern as CompUSA last year. Close some stores before Christmas, then the rest of them at the end of Jan/Feb.

It's really too bad, though I bought a few things from them from time to time, I always used them for Best Buy to price match, and I got Rewards Zone points. AND now there is NO competition for Best Buy, at least not out here...

Good “Free shipping for items over $24+"

Bad “CC was a rebate sale monster”

Practically all their sales had a rebate gimmick, BB got rid of their rebates a while back and their sale prices were just what you saw in their ad, with no rebates to confuse you.

Not so much recently, but over the past several years CC had a great reputation for:

a) price match policy
b) generous returns policy

But, internet shopping pretty much cut CC out of the loop for me.

They would not price match an online retailer so they didn't get my business on a television purchase. I saved $500. This is why they are closing down.

Best buy needs to make sure they dont get complacent, as many are walking into best buy, getting a price and then going on line to shop and get a better one

Hard for a B&M to match online. We lose B&Ms, we lose hands on experience.

I suspect today's CC add in the Sunday paper is the LAST one we'll ever see.

Alas, it wasn't that good. I wonder if they will actually honor the stated sales prices.

The last thing I bought there was Halo 3 for the 360 because they had a 4 foot Master Chief to go with it.
