LeBron happy in Cleveland despite loss - NBA - Yahoo! Sports

“It’s hard for me to congratulate somebody after you just lose to them,” he said. “I’m a winner. It’s not being a poor sport or anything like that. If somebody beats you up, you’re not going to congratulate them. That doesn’t make sense to me. I’m a competitor. That’s what I do. It doesn’t make sense for me to go over and shake somebody’s hand.”

Wrong Lebron, Its all about you being a poor sport.

Tito give me some tissue, Stop teasing Jermaine. LMAO

I am not going to sit idly by while the media and a handful of bitter posters attempt to attach an anchor to LeBron because he had a bad moment or a lapse in judgment on a specific, understandable occasion.

And no, dude, this DOES NOT make him a bad sport. He doesn’t lose credit for ALL THOSE TIMES that he has been a great sport because of one situation in an opposing arena. At least not in my opinion. At least LeBron is being honest. The media meanwhile, can’t be honest enough to admit that what they are really doing by CRUCIFYING LeBron is protecting their own jobs and pressuring all future athletes into sitting at a podium while their emotions are running wild in disappointment.

Again, LeBron has EARNED the benefit of the doubt by being the most accessible guy in the NBA, practically. He has earned it and because of one situation, people out there are trying to paint him as something that he has not been 99.9999999% of the time in his life and career.

Far be it for me to tell anyone what to think, but I watch this guy on a nightly basis. Not the folks at ESPN or CBS or AOL or anywhere else. They have a limited view of the guy because they aren’t watching 82 games like us Cavs fans are. We know the truth and they don’t.

This is such a stupid story. Real sportsmanship happens during the game. LeBron has never lost his cool, showed up an opposing team or did anything "un-sportsman-like" during a game. How about Dwight Howard shooting that last 3 as the final buzzer sounded? To me, that's much worse, but you won't hear a word about it because nitpicking about LeBron's one single misstep draws more reaction.

The NBA does not have official handshakes for teams like the NHL. I've seen many instances when a series ends and the team doesn't congratulate them. 1969 NBA Finals- Lakers walked off the court after they lost to the Celtics in seven games. If this site was around in 1969, would we be calling Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, and Wilt Chamberlain sore losers?

I remember the same thing happened in 94 when Houston beat the Knicks in the NBA Finals. Riley couldn't get his team out the arena fast enough. I like the fact that in college the coaches at least shake hands after every game. The NBA ought to encourage more sportsmanship.

I think it says a lot if the best examples people bring up of this are 40 and 15 years ago. All the excuses or free passes don't make him not a sore loser. Yielding to a red light like a good citizen doesn't give you a free pass to blow through one from time to time.

As long as this is the only time, then really it is no big deal. But it happened, and it will go away once the finals start.

You saw that?? How old were you in 1969??

I'm curious to see what you saw. David Aldridge of TNT seems to interpret it differently in an article about the LeBron snub:

You don't get to dictate the terms under which you're going to be gracious. You either are gracious, or you're not. I have no doubt that you were incredibly hurt, and angry, and frustrated after Game 6. But you know what? Karl Malone and John Stockton were hurt and angry and frustrated after losing the Finals, twice. Jerry West was hurt and angry and frustrated after he lost in the Finals eight times. Eight. Six times to Bill Russell's Celtics. After the last, in 1969, according to Robert Cherry's biography of Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell held West's hand, and John Havlicek said, "I love you, Jerry."

Charles Barkley and Patrick Ewing and Dominique Wilkens and Mark Price and Clyde Drexler and Gary Payton and Reggie Miller were hurt and angry and frustrated after each one of them was vanquished -- in some cases, multiple times -- by Michael Jordan and the Bulls in a playoff series. Kobe Bryant was hurt and angry and frustrated last year, after his Lakers got a 37-point beatdown by the Celtics in the final game of the Finals.

They all shook hands. They all spoke to the media afterward.

NBA.com: LeBron needs to take a lesson from another Cleveland icon

The only sore loser here is the media. They wanted to cover Lebron so badly during the NBA finals that they don't care what the story is.

The amount of legs that this story has is AMAZING.

Funny a person bringing this up who is from the Virginia area whose high schools have produced the likes of Michael Vick, Marcus Vick, Allen Iverson, Percy Harvin, and Bruce Smith (received his third DUI a couple of weeks ago). Excellent role models all.

How does that compare? You MAY have an arugment if say Hedo or lewis or one of the magics top 3 point shooters did it. But Dwight has trouble wtih free throws!! Let alone three pointers.

Showing up an opponent by trying to run up the score when the game was essentially over is worse than LeBron interrupting the Magic's jubilant celebration on court to go give someone a handshake.

LeBron has been in a situation where his team was winning and he had the ball with time expiring and he dribbled the ball until the clock ran out instead of jacking up a 3. Dwight Howard didn't do this. Maybe HE should be the one getting the negative flack, not LBJ!

The media is just pissed that they weren't able to bombard james with stupid questions that we all know the answers to and that they couldn't do this at his most emotional point.
