I have a coolsat 5000 and need to update the satellite list so I can get amc 21 and some other new satellites that have been put up since the box was new.
any ideas

Usually the lists you can download have a bunch of stuff I am not interested in... (Echostar and Bell Ex)

For new stuff like 125W, I just take a satellite in the list that is below my horizon and rename it. (For you, east of 10W or west of 170W) Or I cannibalize satellites list entries that only cover south america.

Then I go into the motor setup and change the orbital location. Then delete the transponders. Then do a blind scan or enter TPs manually.

It's not that much work really.

My 5000 had plenty of room to add extra sats also, but I do what was mentioned above, just renamed one of the sats I can't see through the built in editor.

so if i wanted 125w and needed to tune to 12179-v-30000 I can rename a sat not in use,
I will try but I did not see a sat that had 12179 available, I will look again.
I did not try the sats east of the Atlantic.
thanks

Renaming is cosmetic, and good to do to keep your sanity, but the necessary data is the LO, lnb type and any switch configurations you might have. As posted delete any 'residual' TP info from the commandeered satellite page and manually input your TP freqs/SR or do a BS if you are sure of all the settings are correct and the dish is aligned properly.
The proggy Channelmaster is very handy for doing all of that and more, and is somewhat easier than doing a lot of inputting from the remote.(Fat fingers and arthritis are a poor combo for the tiny button remote)
Because of the convienence of ir input, I have given consideration to trying to use an ir proggy like Girder with an ir led on a serial port to do the ir remote config duties. The menus navigate nicely but the remote isnt 'fat finger friendly'
Another one of those 'one of these days' projects.
If you do decide to give Channelmaster a try, dont forget to manually add the CW feeds on 91 if you do C band. They wont scan in automaticly and must be set manually.
Good luck.
