Any updates on MLB Network

Even some divisions would get more viewers than others. The AL East (which would probably be the most requested) would probably get way more subs than the AL Central (which would probably be the least requested), with the NL East, NL Central, and NL West in the midddle. At the same time, the highest and lowest marketed teams lie within these respective divisions. Even if the moneys are allocated to each division and/or team equally, there is still a disparity when it comes to marketing and advertisement.

I am not saying that your idea is not a good suggestion (in fact, as a sub, I like your idea); I am simply saying that MLB would not allow it for the reasons I stated.

Like I said, the numbers can be dicey. Your not wrong in your assessment. I don't think the numbers would be that drastically skewed, but there would be a difference. Like you pointed out, even with Chicago being in one of the top three markets...the smaller markets in the ALC would drag down overall viewership...

But I am curious about how many folks would sub to a divisional EI package just to scope out the competition like I would. I mean its one thing to sub to EI to get your own team, but another if you're thinking competitively...

Whether the idea is good or not, or even competitively priced, I don't think its cut and dry as to whether or not MLB would gain or lose money off the endeavor. The question is whether or not a gamble is worth the risk if you are already enjoying a stable state.

I just thought of something....MLB has nothing to gain or lose by changing their format. They would be getting their flat rate carriage fee regardless...its the carriers that would take the hit one way or another....they market the product, MLB provides it...

changes the whole dynamic of what we were talking about...

I complained to Dish about the lack of MLB EI on their system. I got a "standard" response from them TWO WEEKS LATER... the same wording that is on their web site regarding MLB. Therefore, unless they change their minds next year, I will be canceling Dish Network when my contract is expired.

These people are as dumb or dumber than Comcast.

Well...if you are ticked off about EI not being on Dish...place the blame squarely on where it belongs. MLB and D*. D*'s attempt at creating a monopoly on sports packs and MLB greed is what drive the cost up too high for E* to be able to effectively turn a profit. Without the deep pockets of the cable conglomerates or the existing subscriber base of D*...when the price got jacked up, business decisions needed to be made....

I'd go back to comcast if you want EI bad enough...don't reward the atrocity...

Simply put: Dish Network will eventually add the MLB Network after the Pacers win the NBA Title. :) But seriously, I am sure Dish Network knows that MANY baseball fans would be happy with MLB Network on Dish since Extra Innings and other services are more expensive. They will eventually swallow their pride since they know it will eventually start to hurt their bottom line. Especially when DirecTV renews the deal and puts it in the $10 frickin package. LOL

Not going to happen.

So long as MLB uses MLB-network as a bargaining chip to get carraige deals for their way over-priced EI package...its not going to happen.

For E* to carry MLBnet, they need to carry EI. And they already dumped EI after D*'s monopoly push raised the price out of proportion to the benefit.

The truth is, carrying EI right now will hurt E*'s bottom line more than not carrying it at this point.

No pride involved...just fiscal responsibility....

I'm sure this has nothing to do with the declining sub numbers.

It wasn't a monopoly push that ended E*'s carriage of EI. It was E's (Charlie's)chronic inability to negotiate with RSN's for SD and HD coverage. E* customers were once again shortchanged on EI with fewer available games and began unsubscribing to EI in droves. And then, after being unsuccessful with a diluted EI product (at the same price as D*, which had all the games), Charlie claimed that most E* subscribers weren't interested in EI and he wasn't going to burden his subscribers with the cost of EI.

Pretty good spin. He should be a politician...

You were talking about fiscal responsibility, my response was to that. If that is off topic, then so was your comment.

But your comment was just your usual little digs and completely off topic. I was only pointing that out so you don't get in trouble again.

You can thank me later.

You are incorrect.

Please do your homework. This forum is a good place to start. D* attempted to bid for exclusive carriage rights like they have with ST and drove the price up. By the time government intervened, it was too late. Only deep-pocket cable companies could affort to pick it up again...and D* who drove the price up to begin with.

It was definitely a monopoly push...

E* did not have deep enough pockets?

Who would have thought 3 years ago that the goverment would own GM. Point is its all about economics. Baseball revenues begin to fall, why would you want to shut out 18 million homes you could be selling comercials to. Times are changing folks. Time for Baseball to think outside the box, they are not the NFL

I know. They bring in more revenue than the NFL and the most revenue of any pro sport in the US

Last years numbers (total revenue):

MLB - $6.5 billion
NFL - $6.0 billion
NBA - $3.2 billion
NHL - $2.4 billion

All other sports combined - $3.3 billion

And their profits are still declining....go figure...

Something is missing from those little numbers of yours...

2008 was one of their most profitable years in a long time. They ran a deficit after the strike, but profits have increased on the average every year since. This year they may be down, but that is pretty much the case with everything.
