I responded to a poll regarding how much $ we spend on this hobby, how about a new poll to see everything else that we are involved in, hobby-wise. We might learn something new about eachother and find some new topics to discuss.

I will start this subject with one of my favorite hobbies (outside of satellite stuff).

I love to fish and not just any fishing, I love to fish for catfish! BIG Catfish! Sitting along the bank of the river in the summertime in my cutoff jeans shorts and watching the moon and stars pass overhead and listening to the gurgling waters takes my mind away! I cannot think of anything that I would prefer to do.

Of course, I like to drink a really good beer while I am fishing, so I have a hobby of home brewing! I am not too adept at this, but have experimented with it for many years and find it quite fun. I have brewed a couple good batches of beer ( a long time ago), if I may say so myself!

Sometimes the river channel may not flow right up to my doorstep, so to get out to the perfect fishing spot, I need a boat! Hence another hobby, boating. My river is not too big or deep, so I need a small boat, like a 14 to 16 foot jon boat. This gets me by just swell! Met my gal on a canoe trip in 1994.

I like rocks (geology) and dancing when the gals rip my shirt off (private story done in public)! LOL

History and all avenues of science (especially electronics) are great fascinations!

Possibly one of my favorite hobbies is space exploration via a telescope or at least APOD (Astonomy Picture Of the Day).

Country Music and hearing the crickets out my back door are a great pleasure! Although I am not entirely countrified. CCR is my favorite Rock and Roll band and I do like music very much, so that is another hobby for me!

Let me diverge here for a moment... Hank Williams Jr. and Waylon Jennings are my foremost musical heros! CCR and Boston fit into this mix somehow, but most people don't see the connection like I do. Throw Billy Vaughn and ZZTop and The Lovin' Spoonful in this mix and you might find me with a smile on my face! Fleetwood Mac has a place in my heart as well as Frakie Laine (High Noon! Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling).

How about your hobbies?

Well over the years I collected old radios/phonographs...I've kinda gotten away from that. A buddy and I used to DJ at weddings parties etc...years ago so I still have the 750 record albums& 700 45's from the 60's thru the early 90's, in the garage. I used to collect coins as a kid but now I like to spend money lol. Musically I can tolerate anything but opera I guess. My favorite group was Canned Heat. One of the members was a guy named BlindOwl...so I took my name from there. Allman Bros, Little Feat, The Outlaws etc...good stuff Blind:)

I don't have a lot of hobbies but the major one is knifemaking. Been making knives since 1992 and realy enjoy the challenge of making the next one better than the last.

You can see some of what I have made hereVestal Knives

Take care

I study foreign languages, collect fire hydrants, and listen to all sorts of music. Little Feat? I was there at the beginning, their very first album was their best (ouch, who threw the cabbage). I got a speed bag, guess that's a hobby. Addictive, anyway. Always dx'd AM as a kid, FTA is exciting like that. I once called the FCC to complain about the interference I was getting on KMOX at the same time each day, really annoying buzz, and the FCC lady took me so seriously, until I let slip that I lived in Chicago. She hung up on me.

actually one of my other hobbies would be fishing (ice fishing...some of the ice houses here in MN have satellite dishes on them) :)

Use to play softball all the time until I screwed up my back.

nah. Most are either single LNB Directv units or Dish 500's.....I tried to convince my dad to put a 30" dish on the fish house for G10 but that got shot down :(

Well........where do I start.
-Satellite
-Electronics
-Car Audio
-Automechanics
-Small engine repair
-Fishing (boat and ice)
-woodworking/carpentry/home improvement including (but not limited to) plumbing, electrical, flooring, doors/windows, ceramic tile etc. etc. etc. I've done it all
-snowmobiling
- music, playing guitar or just listening to all kinds of music
- spending time with my son

I'm sure the list is much longer than that but essentially I am not happy unless I am building or fixing something......working with my hands.

Outside of my satellite addiction, I like antique tractors and engines. I frequent the old hit+miss engine and tractor shows. I own a 1947 Ford 2N I use with the Bush Hog and a 1956 Farmall Cub. Also a Cushman Cub antique engine.

Oh my, yes. My dad used to take me to threshing bees and I fell in love with those old tractors, and the odd stationary engines that would be on display. The Rumely Oil Pulls were always my favorite as a kid, IMHO it is not just a tractor, it's a living thing, it smells good, and you want to take it home with you.

I would like to get me a diesel chainsaw. Don't laugh, they exist, but are a bit scarce. No electric glow plug, either, they somehow used propane stored in the handle to get the diesel to initially fire.

I wish I had kept the email, but have since lost or buried it. Someone sent me some pix of an ice fishing shack that was simply "way out there"!

It was made from a Tuff Shed and had a propane tank on the back to operate a heater and a generator. Lights, refrigerator, microwave, bunk beds, and a couple of Lazy Boy chairs set near the hole in the floor to ice fish from! Of course, they also had DN TV via a DISH 500 antenna! The interior was all decked out like a very nice den. Cupboards and cabinets and really nicely finished woodworking.

It was really quite amazing! Fishing in style!

There is a local guy who is retired and his hobby is refurbishing the old, antique and classic tractors. He hunts down all the original parts and pieces them together and when finished, they look and run like brand new! They are awesome!

yep the lake where our fish house is (Lake Mille Lacs...one of the biggest ones in MN) you see those all the time out there :)

Let's see:

Amateur Radio (KG4LAO) and with it QSL Card collecting
Shortwave QSLing
FTA
Coin & Paper Money Collecting
Baseball Cards
Scouting Patches
Beer Steins
Book Collecting
Tool Collecting

I also make it a point to try to get Linux on just about
every electronic device that I use. Ubuntu seems to be
my favorite flavor primarily because my wife is a point and
click kind of girl and harmony in my home is of utmost importance.
We have been completely Windows free for 3 years now.

As far as tractors go; a Ford 8N has been on my wish list for
about 5 years but since I have a suburban "homestead", I can't justify
the expense :( that harmony thing.

We do scouting with my boys. I have 5. Camping, Fishing, & Hunting are
on this list by virtue of living in SC and the 5 boys listed above.

It is a miracle that I get anything done!!

Dixie Chicken Rocks!:D:D

I have an old Ford 600 for mowing the lane and pulling logs. Got a 1 acre garden, hogs, goats, and chickens. Must have picked and delivered 60 dozen ears of sweet corn this week. The goats & pigs get the stalks.

My favorite hobby is done with a good friend of mine, we travel around the county committing random Christian acts.

Today it was fixing a leaking sink drain for Doreen, a nice widow lady...we overcharged her....2 cups of coffee each!

Yesterday, it was a faulty power switch on a vacuum cleaner for Lucille, another widow, shimmed the plastic slide with a bit of plastic and some epoxy. She asked "How much do I owe you?" "Nothing" I replied. "I have to give you something", she said. "How about a pie?" Nothing beats a pie made by someones grandmother. I hope it's apple.

Last week it was a faulty outside outlet, and removing a hornets nest. Same fee $0.00
