I've got an older neighbor that got installed for Dish last Monday, and they are not happy with it. How many days "grace" do they have before they will have to pay an early termination fee? Is there a 7, 15, 30 day opt out to cancel?

They want to cancel. No talking them out of it. I'm just trying to find out info for them.

It really is your Nieghbors responsibility to cancel Dish, but honestly they do owe Dish an explanation of why they dont like the service.I am sure they are still getting new service dicounuts at this time. What dont they like about the service,if they are having problems with equipment or Picture quality they should contact Dish to correct the problem.I have been with Dish for over 8 years and yes it did take getting used to,but compared to other services in my area, the price ,channel availabilty outweighs anything the other companies can offer ,sure in my area Comcast offers a special for 29.99 but once you add on anything extra DVRS,extra outlets(install Fees)Dish becomes alot cheaper and easier to change around programming. The only thing Dish is lacking at this time is a decent On Demand service, but with a DVRyou can live without that.
You need to have a serious talk with your older nieghbor and find out what their problem is with Dish, just not liking the way the service, channels, eqipment is set up isnt a reason to cancel. They need to give it a chance.Older or not they should know better than to sign up for something without doing their reseach.Sure Dish my let you cancel service at a Cost but your nieghbors owe it to themselves to give it a Chance.

And it looks like we are trying to help. One person said 3d and the CSR from Dish said none. Guess it is in your neighbors hands now.

It has been no grace period for several years. I know that there are some states that impose a grace period, but most people don't know about it, and by the time they really decide they want to cancel it's to late.

They need to pay or figure out what it its they don't like and have it fixed. Older people always have a problem with change.

What does their contract say? If there is a legally necessary grace period, it should be a part of the contract.

If there is no obligation on DISH to let them out of it and they really want out, they should pay the early term fee.

Either way, DISH will be out far more in labor fees to do the install and uninstall plus equipment that has to be recertified than the $10/mo early term fee.

What are they unhappy about?

Most older people are unhappy with their service mainly because they can't find the stations they want to watch.
Most older people hate having so many stations. It really does confuse them.
Plus if they got one of the more advanced receivers? I bet they are really loving it:(

It really does vary by state. But generally there is no "grace period" for changing your mind on a contract as many people believe. The states the do offer such such thing usually have specific parameters like the salesman must have initiated the contact.

So whatever relief they get will likely be by Dish's leniency rather than some legal bases.

a good neighbor would set them up with a custom guide and then they would only have to deal with the few station they like. :)

Just think if they had DirecTV with twice as many infomercial channels and the PPV channels in the 100s. They'd probably go with DISH anyway if they had to chose between the two services.

I think the DISH channel line up is a lot more user friendly than DirecTV.

Im curious why they signed up to begin with, unless they had horrible weather and had a brief outage I cant understand why someone would know they wanna leave after only a day or two. Oh well, hopefully you can work it out and see how or if they can cancel without early termination.

Its 3 days. Sometimes Dish enforces it, sometimes they do not!

The guy just needs to call Dish, express his need to cancel and let them send out a technician to educate the customer. Once he goes through all the steps to show him how to use the system and he still does not get it, they will more than likely allow him to cancel.
