NCAA Football 2009-10 Season

Pathetic. Biased garbage. Take a look at the average computer rankings of the conferences, and see how not-even-remotely-close you are:

Conference Rankings

Pac-10
SEC
Big East
Big 10
ACC
B12
MWC
WAC

By having the B12 2nd in your list, you're proving that you're only looking at historical BS. The bottom 3/4 of that conference is horrible, including essentially the entire North.

MWC over the Big East. Ha.

Hey, in some universe the MWC may well be better than the Big East, just not this one. :D

...You say that Oregon gets too much credit for wins over a down USC and Cal teams, but fail to point out that either of those teams would be decided favorites over any Big East team. USC would be a twenty point + favorite over them.
Cincy @ Oregon St. wins by 10, 28 - 18. Oregon St. @ USC loses by 8, 42-36. I doubt USC would be a 20 point favorite over Cincy, especially how sorry their defense looked this past weekend against Oregon. If any team was a top 10 fraud this year, it was USC.

sabs, I have Cincy rated ahead of Georgia Tech. That's based strictly on how the system is set up.

If you ask me who desrves to be ranked higher out of those two? Cincy

If you ask me who would prevail in a series of games head to head? Georgia Tech.
Year after year Georgia Tech fails to meet expectations. They looked awful against a poor LSU team last year during bowl season. To dismissively say they would prevail over Cincy this year is looking through Big East Hater glasses, and shows you haven't paid much attention to the Bearcats this year, or even watched them play for that matter.

The Big East has FOUR good teams this year- Pittsburgh, Cincy, West Virginia, South Florida- plus, Rutgers and UConn aren't too bad.

That conference is better than some people want to credit them for (*cough* SamC *cough* David *cough).

The supposedly superior Mountain West conference, OTOH- sure, they have TCU, BYU, and Utah, but beyond those three teams, the rest of the teams are HORRIBLE!

Besides, who wants to watch those three teams pound far inferior teams every week?

Temple's not in the BE.

Definitely. But I'll probably spend more time wondering why LaGarrette Blount gets suspended for the season but Brandon Spikes gets half a game.

Apparently criticizing the officiating is a more egregious error than gouging someones eyes out in the SEC.

Are you going to talk about Spikes being headbutted with his helmet off? How about him having his helmet ripped off by a Georgia offensive lineman? What about the dirty hit to try to take Tebow out? Maybe the guy trying to break Brandon James neck 10 yards out of bounds?

What is the discipline coming out of Athens?

Stop with the anti-Florida BS.

Where did you see Temple in his post?
The post originally said "The Big East has FOUR good teams this year- Pittsburgh, Cincy, West Virginia, South Florida- plus, Rutgers and UConn aren't too bad. Plus Temple is Bowl Eligible."
But the Temple part was edited out while anders was making his comment about Temple not being in the Big East.

I'm not a Big East hater, but they have to at least prove something before I declare Cincinnati robbed if they're not in the NC game. The Big East is 3-4 in bowl games against other teams from BCS conferences the last two years (compared with Pac-10 7-1, SEC 10-3, and Big XII 9-6). Only the ACC and Big Ten have worse bowl records against BCS conference teams.

If the Big East is truely better this year, then they will prove it in the bowls and I'll be a believer.

Unfortunately the Dawg faithful have been making tons of excuses this year for the sorry defense, and excessive penalties.

Unfortunately neither will get better as long as CMR keeps Willie around and coddles the penalty makers (remember CMR is an assistant from the Criminole days at FSU).

Hey Hart, HE TRIED TO GOUGE SOMEONES EYES OUT. Who cares what brought it to that point? Sure that was a dirty game, but nothing compared to what Spikes did. And I'm sure Florida wasn't playing dirty at all until Spikes went all Three Stooges. Everyone should remember from pee-wee football that it's the 2nd guy that always gets caught anyway.

This is not anti-Florida. It's pro-college football to not want that in the sport.

Tell that to the apologists here. Facts don't seem to matter, it seems.

The computer rankings of the conferences are not facts other than saying Sagrin or some other egg head has put together a formula that yields the following results(ie: Big East is the 3rd best conference.

Much like stating that the Quad Blog on the New York Times that covers all things College sports rated the BCS Conferences before the start of the 2009 season and rated the Big east 6th by quite a bit.

Stewart Mandel (SI.com CFB guru) rated the Big East 6th both in terms of current play and historical overview.

I've watched Cincy play four games this season from start to finish. I said they were a good team, I ranked them 7th.

I aslo see a team that couldn't be anything other than a .500 team in other BCS Conferences with the possible exception of the ACC.

Teams that win the Big East are a product of their laughable schedules both in and out of Conference.

That's why no team from the Current alignment of the Big East has ever played for a NC.

More than likely the BCS will be changed to another format in the coming years with that statemnet still intact. I'll take another look at the Conference when they even have a participant in a BCS Title game.

On another subject Spikes should have been suspended by the conference for the rest of the Regular season.

No place in CFB for that nonsense. It doesn't matter one iota to me that is was supposedly in retaliation. He's the man that got caught by the cameras.

My final thoughts, don't want to rehash over and over the same thing.

No defenitive proof is available other than to watch the games and different people see different things. I wish they could play head up in matchups for a period of time.

UT plays cincy in 2011 and UConn in 2014 and 2015 I believe. Should be interesting

In closing I fall back on the single best judge of football talent out ther IMO

NFL rosters (end of season 2008)

SEC- 259
ACC- 254
Big 10 227
Pac 10 178
Big 12 170
Big East 87

No amount of hype, spin, Computer formulas or homerism can negate the talent difference IMO.
Also only one conference as currently comprised has been shut completely out of BCS Championships. -BIG EAST.

I think the SEC is the best conference both currently and historically. I also freely admit other conferences play top notch football. I will also add that it wouldn't surprise me to see both Florida and Alabama go down this season. All that said though I contend that Big east is the worst BCS Conference by a substantial margin.

Hancox and a few others feel differently and contend that the Big East is a dominant Conference. Just a difference of opinion that makes CFB great.

The same can be said for the SEC, Big10, Big12, and Pac10 - some conferences to a lesser extent and some equal. Until the better teams of the conferences play head to head, no one knows how good they are relative to each other. This has been proven time and time again over the years. Calling one team out as inferior or superior to another makes one no wiser than the pollsters they criticize.

The fact that the ACC is second in this list shows that these numbers have nothing to do with representing how strong a conference is.

...not to mention - how many of those "ACC" alums actually played in the Big East ?

Also, don't take into account that the Big East is an 8 team league, in both your numbers and championships comparisons.

Sigh.

...and David - quoting 2 guys (literally) with their "rankings", compared with computer numbers that actually (allegedly) use some form of statistics, doesn't exactly help your case.

Agreed the SEC is just as guilty of this as anybody.

If it were up to me, all BCS Conferences would be forced to play equally under the same setup.

9- Conference Games
2- Out of Conference matchups with schools from other BCS Conferences
1- Game of the schools choosing.
