I have a hughes gaboa receiver that I own and just died. Will I have to send it bacd to Dtv or do I dispose of it. Just wondering so I can get rid of it. Anyone know?
 
Do you have the protection plan? If yes, replacement will be free. If no - maybe free due to age of receiver or maybe not.

If a tech comes out to replace it, they will have to bring the old box back with them. If they mail a box to you, they may or may not want the hughes box back. I wouldn't throw it away until you know for sure which avenue you'll be travelling.

If you own it you will dispose of it. DirecTV will likely replace it with a leased receiver.

Is this correct? I thought that if you have an owned receiver with protection plan, the receiver they send you as the replacement will also be owned. Anyone out there to clarify this?
 
THAT'S WEIRD

That's weird because I was under the impression that if you own it, and you have the protection plan, the replacement you receive will be also listed as owned on your account.

This thread is full of good questions and best guess answers. Anybody care to guess why Directv makes it so hard to discover simple contractual agreement terms?

There are open ended leases...pay each month and equipment will be provided...in unlimited amounts!

There are closed ended leases...pay up front to some level...pay each month for usership. At the end of the period start over if you want!

There are rentals.............Pay the first and last payment up front and pay each month. Renew if you want...leave early and loose deposits!

There is ownership....You paid for it...you fix it or replace it!

And there is the DirecTV plan!

Anybody? What?

If your older Hughes box is owned, and likely it is, then you just trash it. DirecTV absolutely will no longer replace an owned box with an "owned" box. The replacement you get will be leased, and they will likely "make a mistake" and put a two year service commitment on you when you activate it, which they are not supposed to do. You'll have to call and make sure they don't, and it's a hassle to get it removed. All part of the ever terrific customer "service" that D* also tells you you are getting.

We also have FIOS. The FIOS "protection plan" is simple-if the box does not work, they replace it. No fee, no hassle, no service commitment, just as it should be.

Yes if you have Protection plan and the plan replaces a reciever that is own, the new box will be marked as owned.

Only when we replace when you do not have protection plan does it trigger an comittment and become leased.

Your wrong on so many counts that not funny.


1. If you have protection plan it does not trigger any comittments if a box is replaced unless the idiot ordered the box under the wrong code.

2. If you Own a say R10 Tivo and it is marked as owned in our system then by our own policy protection plan replacemtns for that box are also marked as owned.

3. If a lease box is replace it will still be marked as lease but no comittment extention. ( though some times idiots order the box under the wrong code which causes said problems )


Please double check your facts before ranting on and on.

Thanks for clarifying this question Stonecold. I guess people are misinformed about this kind of situation and need clarification.
 
Well, Mr. Stonecold, you may be right in saying what policy is supposed to be now, but I have had three owned boxes changed out under the protection plan, and they were all replaced with leased boxes, despite emails, calls and letters to D* by us protesting this and wanting our replacement boxes to be owned. I have emails from D* saying that what you say is absolutely NOT their policy-all new boxes are leased, period.

Second, even though activation of replacement boxes is not supposed to result in a new commitment, in all three cases D* added a commitment by "mistake" and it took emails and calls in each case to get the commitments removed.

So, you go on living in your perfect little company employee world, and I'll live in the world of what D* actually does and says to their customers.

Because of situations like this, what you SAY, and what D* DOES, we are canceling our D* next month and we will not care if you think we are wrong on any count. You may be the one good employee D* has, but stop chiding me for getting it wrong. I'm just telling you what D* did and what D* wrote. You can't make this stuff up, so curb your righteous hog, please. What you think is supposed to happen and what did happen here are two completely different things.

I don't work for DIRECTV, but if DIRECTV switched over to all boxes being leased boxes years ago I doubt they'd replace an owned box with another owned box. They'd have to charge the customer hundereds of dollars to "buy" a new box for it to be called an "owned" box.
 
I've had purchased H20 and R15's replaced under the PP and both continued to be marked as owned (I made sure they were when the STB's were swapped) and no new commitment was added to my account.

Umm no that is not policy and never has been with people with protection plan.

I dont live with the blinders on I very critical of the company

Happy camper. I find that most customers with your type of problems are well caused by the customer.

Where they jump down the throats of the first person who answers the phones.

Most of the time when I come across people who have your issues, it usually because insead of waiting say 72hours for case management or 7 to 10 days for upper managemnt to review and correct you call in daily and get a bunch of random bs because your not getting the answer you want. And you keep playing csr rollete but it only makes you madder as you get dumber and dumber agents.

I called employees agents I am not someone who thinks highly of all the staff. What I do is tell you how it supposed to be. Also how some things cause otherthings and how to work around it.

you rather rant on in a couple of threads about this same issue which does no one any good.

Depends. If the HR23 was replaced due to the HD swap no.

If it was a protection plan swap yes.

It is one of the few ways to own a HR2x

Though most likely you would not get a hr23 but a hr22 or hr21 refurb.
 
If you had an HR10-250 no matter what went wrong with it and you wanted it replaced DIRECTV would consider it an ungrade since the HR10-250 only get's 3 or so HD channels.
