I just bought a new HDTV and moved the other HDTV to the 2nd spot on the 711. I know I cannot get this in HD, but should it be in the proper apect ratio. When I hit the format button on remote #2, i have normal and letterbox. Normal is 4x3 and letter box would be letter box on a 4x3 tv, but stretched on mine with black bars at top and bottom.

Thanks,

The only way I know is to put the 722 into single mode (both tv's watch the same program) This gives you the proper aspect ratio for the display. Every setting I've tried with the 722 in duo mode turns out as you describe.

thanks, i called dish from work of course and i am not in front of my tv so they didn't want to help. but they tell me it should work if i do it right. i guess i'll call them tonight from home and report back any thing that i find out.

You say that Normal is 4*3, as in zoomed, not anamorphic? I use the Composite output of my 722 to feed a DVD-R, and I was able to set it to a pseudo-anamorphic mode, and when my DVD-R plays back, the player stretches it to fit the full screen. So I perceive no cropping or distortion.

the picture is definitely distorted, i can pause the tv and watch the picture change from normal(4x3) and then add on to the sides with with letterbox. I guess if letterbox would come through as normal, i would be fine.(if that makes sense)

i called dish last night and they confirmed with me that it wasn't meant to have a 2nd hd or widescreen tv on the 2nd tuner. what i see and redsalmon thought, that is just the way it works. after speaking with the csr while at work i was holding out hope.

keep the Dish receiver on normal and change the HDTV's aspect to full screen. Thats what I did with a sharp LCD. I've since scrapped that setup and ran 2 CAT5e cables from a vip612 and used CAT5e to HDMI converter plates.

40pirate, your fault isn't with Dish. It's with your settings on your 2nd TV.

You need to unstretch it. Philips and LG displays are notorious for stretching 480i/p content by default out of the box. You need to go into the menu and tell it to zoom or do 4:3.

For the 722, I would personally letterbox things.

What channels were you watching? If you were watching the HD versions of Food Network, TBS, TNT, A&E, History, Lifetime, Lifetime Movie Networks, HGTV or Cartoon Network, it might've been the channel stretching things out.

It is a 42 Panny, not sure on the model off the top of my head(about 2.5 years old, 720p model). But I can put it at letterbox and play with it's format options, but it still stretches it around a little bit. I had it to where it was ok to view, but the dishnet channel banner when change channels then goes off the screen. I called about hooking up the 211, but they want a 2-year agreement to send it out. I am currently out of the commitment and kind of like it that way, not that I plan on changing services anytime soon.

Thanks,

1.) You are connecting a 42inch Widescreen Panasonic to a coaxial feed from your 722 Receiver that was designed to output Standard Definition (on tuner #2) in the first place...
2.) When you press the */format button on the 1st TV you'd get:
Stretched/Zoom/Partial/Full......
3.) You cannot do this with the Standard Definition fed, HDTV with the remote because (SEE #1)

As an example, I too have 2 HDTV's...
The 2nd HDTV is being fed Tuner #2's information:
Which is an HD signal down-converted to SD, make sense?

So, Your options for */Format will be different, e.g 4:3 not 16X9....
16X9=WideScreen
4:3=Standard.

I've noticed that Not all channels function this way, btw.
You can view an HDTV signal on the SD feed
i.el (if you are paying for this service which is $10 extra)
You get the letterbox option.

With your letterbox option(which i have) does it put black bars at the top and bottom of the screen?
