Wait and see

Yes thats the way it is now, but that all changes on February 1st. Dish DVR Advantage is no more.

Believe it or not they seem to be trying to simplifying things at the same time.

Well I will wait and see how the changes affect my bill. If "E" becomes closer to the cost of "D" then this might be the tipping point for a change to "D". One reason. I want the Mountain Network for the Mountain West games. My local Dish Network/Direct TV dealer has be trying to talk me into Direct TV for quite some time.

I switched to Direct 2 years ago, but have been watching Dish, as I wouldn't have been opposed to going back. Now that I have 3 HD DVRs, Directv's $5.00 fee for extra receivers looks like a bargain compared to this new thing....

Too bad.... because I was going to consider going back if the DVR fee was per account. ... but not at THOSE rates for receivers.... sounds like Mediacom to me.

One thing I'm still confused about..... OK... the DVR fee will now be per account, not per receiver, but what about if you have a 612, the HD solo DVR? Since they are of the solo class, will it only be $7 for those recievers?

If they are only $7 more, then I still might consider Dish depending on what Direct does this year with their price increases.

Here is what I see

Now:

1st rcvr - $6 lease + $6 dvr fee

2nd - $6 lease + $6 dvr + $5 AO

New

1st rcvr - $6 lease + $6 dvr

2nd - $17

So its the same damn price?

Right now, I'm paying $12.00 for each 622 (no A/O fee). I'm not paying anything for the first one (722). So if the $17.00 per receiver is true, the increase is $5.00 per receiver.

In my case, my bill would go up $10.00 for 2 622s. I'm assuming the first receiver fee will continue to be waived. If not, my bill goes up $27.00 and that's a 21% increase on my bill.

Thank You Scott!

If I held back on reporting the info I was getting for multiple sources and didnt report on it until Dish made it official, then I might as well change the sites name to DBSTalk.

This is SatelliteGuys and when we have a good lead on a story we report it. If you don't want to know anything until there is a press release then go to DBSTalk.

Thinking about it last night, while $17 a month is a lot for a Duo DVR, when you figure that the price includes the AO, DVR and other fees it makes it better. I know some folks though that the $17 charge would also include the other fees on top, not they case they are just rolling all the charges together.

I did a check of my local cable company and the costs for a HD DVR are about the same PLUS they charge extra to rent the remote to operate the HD DVR. It looks like this receiver pricing is going to become the norm in the industry and would not be surprised to see DirecTV follow behind, but if they dont they they just might be able to call themselves the new low price leader.

One more thing I am proud to report the good and bad on all of the satellite industry, I do this so that our members are informed so they can make the best decissions for their needs. And informed consumer is a better consumer. Take a look at the homepage at the other site, they only report the good stuff, we tell you the good and bad so you can decide whats best for you. And that something I am damn proud of. :)

Scott please continue to support us with your information, rumor or fact. This is what SatelliteGuys is all about! Ignore the remarks from those “kill the messenger postings”.

Your time and efforts are truly appreciated!:up

If things are as they seem it looks like AEP might be the biggest casulty.

I have AEP mainly since it is less expensive because of the DVR fees. I really only watch HBO/SHO series on the movie channels.

Of course this is preliminary information, exact details are not clear. Scott should get more details before long.

i still have not figured out a sitiuation where one customers price decreases.

everyone on this site has been moaning for years for charlie to get rid of the phoneline fee. well, congradufrigganlations. you got him to get rid of it and instead automatically include it on every duo receiver he makes. at least before we had the option.

how can the guy get on tv and "dish us a merry christmas" with a straight face thanking us for our patronage damn well knowing hes gonna drop a bomb on our bills in a months time.

well if this change raises my rates AEP is a goner for certain!

and I will turn dish off after more than 12 years and try verizon fios, which i truly hate because of a unreliable phone line for 2 months........

but one must stay flexible.

I was about to cancel my FIOS phone. now i will wait a bit

hard to believe they will drop the phone line verification.......... perhaps it will show up as a discount?

the number of moving boxes will multiply faster than bunny rabbits....

While I can't say for sure, it looks pretty likely that this will be a good chance for me to shop my $2000/yr account (monthly charges and pay per view events) around and see if someone else wants to make me a good deal. Dish doesn't seem all that interested anymore.

My bill is kind of messed up so it's hard to tell what will happen for me. I have a 622, 510, and 501.

The 510 and 622 are leased. I own the 501.
I currently have a DVR fee of ZERO and two Solo DVR fees of $5.00ea.
I guess I assume the Solo DVR fees are actually the extra receiver fees.

If they eliminate DVR Fees (thus nothing to get for free)
And add Receiver fees (never were free with AEP)

I'll see my two $5.00 fees go to $7.00ea (not sure due to the 501 being non DVR fee to start with) and gain a nice new $17.00 fee for the 622.

So a monthly increase of $18-$21 with no increase in benefit to me. Perfect Dish. After the BS of continuing to charge me for Platinum HD when it had been discontinued, you find even another way to make me consider other service providers.

The no DVR fee was the only compelling reason for me to have the AEP pack. If this pricing strategy goes into affect, I'll drop it and get the lowest package that has the channels my wife wants to watch. If once I figure out what the true cost is and I find it is costlier than cable, I'll dump dish and go to cable. Every year for the past few years I've seen my bill get higher and higher with the value getting lower and lower. With this pricing strategy they will only remain competitive with subs that may only have one receiver. Those like me who were looking to get an additional 722K (get rid of the 510) are not the ones that will see any value with Dish any longer.

If this increase or "change in pricing" turns out to be true I'll be very disappointed. I was planning on ordering a second 722k in January, but now I'll probably hold of until February to see what happens.
When I switched from Insight to Dish, I ended up paying about $10.00 more a month, but I was OK with that because Dish gave me a lot more HD channels and a fantastic DVR (722k). If pricing goes up without added HD programing/channels, I would have to think long & hard about staying with Dish. I'll never go back to Insight cable, but I would seriously think about OTA and Netflix. I was planning on subscribing to NetFlix in January anyway.
What I can't understand is why a company like Dish, in this economy, would take a chance of "over-pricing" themselves. In this last year people have started to see where cuts in their spending have got to be made. Even though things like subscription TV and the internet service are not really consider luxuries anymore, when forced with paying utilities, food, and gas, I think subscription TV would be cut out even before internet service.
I guess time will tell.

Directv is a lease fee per unit of $5 or whatever, and a SINGLE dvr fee right??

Correct, $5/per receiver (after the 1st) plus the single DVR fee, $6.00, that covers all DVR's on the account.

Well, if thats true, and Dish does this, then Directv looks like a better choice.

I'm ok with a $5-6 lease fee on rcvr's, and with a SINGLE DVR, but I refuse to pay more than that if I have an option.

Correct, $5/per receiver (after the 1st) plus the single DVR fee, $6.00, that covers all DVR's on the account.

That's acceptable. With this new equipment fees (if true), Dish Network is comparing with the cable companies. I believe Comcast is charging $15.95 for a HD DVR in our area.

I believe the primary is fee free, so your increase would be 2 bucks a month for each extra receiver.

interestingly the 508 is DVR fee free, but the 510 has the fee.

i recently picked up a 508 for that reason, but havent activated it
