Well I find it hard to believe that E* is going to give you the Most expensive receiver free. If thats the case, I'll drop my 622 and get a 222 and the hell with DVR.:)

Just going on the info scott had posted, if I read it right?. I just dropped down from AEP, as it sounds many will do according to the posts here.

Or get a 612 and your bill will drop $1.00. That's what I'm considering, lightly, since one of my 722s is strictly in Single mode.

How so? Can you show me the math that explains your bill going down? I mean this latest update shows that Charlie not only did NOT do away with the dvr fee even if he says their is only one dvr fee per account, he is now adding the phone connection fee to your bill, even if you connect your receiver to a phone or ethernet. He is simply rolling all the existing fees and the new tv 2 connection fee into one big ass equipment fee.
Completely agree with your sentiment. But I did show you my math on P1 of this thread.

There are winners and losers with these new fees. Generally those of us with only 612s as secondary receivers are coming out ahead. My old fee for 612's was $12. The new fee is $10. I have a 722 and two 612's. My monthly goes down $3.50. I'm missing 50 cents somewhere, but we can look at it another way. AT250 w/DVR and locals was $67.99. The Feb 1 price with locals is $5 lower: $62.99. But now I have to pay $6/account for my DVRs, so for a single 722 w/AT250+locals, my bill goes up $1. The fees for my two 612 secondary receivers together went down $4. So I save $3 right there.

Examples??
2 receiver swaps in less then 6 months, (Both New in box) Dropouts while playing back a recording, Slower changing channel, 1/2 of the interactive features of the 622,and 722, No Picture in Picture, only 30 hours of HD recording compaired to 55. And was at the time the exact same monthly fee as the 722.

I see by your fees compared to mine that your AT250 is $67.99. Mine is broken out: Classic $57.99 + Classic Gold 250 $10.00 + Gold $10.00= $77.99. I have two 722, with the fees $12.00. Will my bill be similar to yours?

If you have 2 722's and nothing else, your bill should go up by $6.

Scott - you need to get clarification of what is meant by "DVR Advantage is no more".

What exactly happens to customers with those packages ?

If they get charged exactly the same for their programming , but they now have a $6 DVR fee, then it is a $6 increase for their programming.

My total increase is going to be $33. $6 from losing the w DVR package, the rest from the higher fees for my 522s.

Currently I have
57.99 Top 200 W DVR
31.00 Premiums (Top 250, HD, Starz)
-3.00 w DVR credit
Total 85.99

With losing the w DVR, I lose the $3 credit. And I lose the premium bundle as HD and top 250 no longer counts towards bundling premiums.

62.99 Top 250
10.00 HD
12.99 Starz
6.00 DVR Fee
Total 91.98

I have three 522s because that is what Dish sent me when they made me get rid of my 721s. Up to now I have been paying $5 for each one. I was not getting charged the DVR fees due to the 721 swap. So for me the total fees are:
$5 X 3 = $15 (My primary receiver is a 722)

That will be going up to
$14 X 3 = $42

Total of $33 increase.
Looks like I'll be dropping Starz and the HD addon and just taking a $10 increase.
Although I do have a 508 in the closet so I could swap out one of the kids 522 for the 508 and save $7.

As to the reason for having the phone line hooked up come Feb 1st.

The pessimist in me says that the receivers will no longer work if you don't hook up a phone line or broadband.

The opptomist in me says the entire $14 fee will be waived if I hook up to a phone line or broadband.

Reality is it will most likely end up being something I don't care about.

:)

So lets see who gets hit the worst in this price hike on -just because we can - equipment fees.

Subs that have multiple duo tuner dvrs ( 622/722/722k) on your account will be hurt the most. At $17.00 a receiver the money really starts to add up. Five duo tuner dvrs times $17.00 =$85.00 extra a month. Subs with AEP will see a slight increase of $3.01 in their bill for the dvr fee , because the programming will go down by $2.99 a month over what it is today: $6.00 dvr fee - 2.99 programming decrease=$3.01. Subs with extra 612 receivers will fare a little better because they will see a decrease over what they are paying today. They will only pay 10.00 instead of 12.00 like today. A decrease of $2.00 .

So the remedy for all these changes? Drop off your account all extra duo tuner dvrs like the 622/722/722k after the first dvr. You can add simple solo tuner receivers like the 211k and pay the one time $39.99 software upgrade fee to turn your receivers into dvrs. But you will have to buy external hard drives to turn them into dvrs. Of course if you already had external hard drives attached to your extra 622/722/722k receivers, you could reformat those and use them with your new 211k receivers.

As for programming if you have AEP you could stay and pay only $3.01 more or you could drop down to top 250 and save the extra $40.00 a month . You could always go with Netflix for movies and or streaming movies at 9.99 a month. But I can't see dropping down in DISH programming, just to offset the increase in equipment fees, so you could keep multiple duo tuner dvrs. Less programming in exchange for more equipment fees? I don't think so.

OF course if everyone follows this idea, DISH will lose a lot of revenue off of AEP subs who will drop down to lower programming packs. Not to mention a drop off of all that equipment fee revenue as well ,when subs drop off their extra duo tuner dvrs and or trade them in for solo tuner receivers like the 211k. But that is business. IF Charlie wants to combine all his -JUST BECAUSE WE CAN- fees into one big fee, so be it. The subs should play along and offset his increases ,by decreasing their programming and dropping off their accounts multiple duo dvrs and or going with 211k receivers . That way your only equipment fees will stay what they are today : 7.00 per extra receiver and NO dvr fees.

NETFLIX ANYONE?

Perhaps E is attempting to create a buzz here before CES, and at the same time distract the board from the embarasing 922 fiasco. they are finally ready to release a box that essentially obsolete. sadly E appears unable to release a new box on schedule. that must be embarasing up to the very top of E......

jeez we spent millions and it still doesnt work? and is obsolete?

if these increases really come true I will leave for cheaper places. like comcast or Fios. both bundling offers can save me money.

looking into these now.

its sad charlie USED to say you asked for it you got it.

appears to have morphed into how many bucks can we get from you?

frankly I think this entire thing may turn into nothing.

its a planted distraction for CES so we dont slam E so much for the 922......

Can I interest you in a subscription to Conspiracy Theory Monthly?;)

I hope someone at CES asks Charlie, or someone of importance there, WHY this is happening at this time. Why do they take advantage of the biggest subs while offering new subs the red carpet?

I'd be curious what their answer might be...

Can I have some help figuring out what my price will be after Feb 1'st

Here is what I have: VIP 612 & 222

Classic Silver 200 With DVR 57.99
HD & Platinum 10.00
DHA Leased Receiver 7.00

And would it be cheaper if I switched my Equipment to a 722K & a 211?

Thanks,

Josh

What 922 fiasco? I have one and I love it, the software has gotten real good over the past month.

They were thing of releasing it two months ago and it was terrible. The actually ended the beta program as they were going to release it and I honestly begged Charlie directly not to release it and he listened. In fact we traded quite a few emails on the subject.

Now while there are some small issues I give it my thumbs up for it's release.

I applaud dish and echostar for holding it back as I know they really wanted to have this released for the holidays.

I love my 922 and I know others are going to love it as well.
