From CES via Engadget HD . . .

A video demo of RVU extending a DirecTV DVR to another room . . .
We've been exited about the multiroom capabilities of the new RVU protocol built on top of DLNA since the alliance was announced -- DirecTV let its intentions of releasing products in 2010 known at the same time. Up until now we haven't actually been able to see it in action, but today we caught a great demo at the Entropic's booth, and it's cool. The demo showed a totally new DirecTV DVR connected to multiple TVs. The first TV was connected via HDMI and thanks to the wonders of MoCA, the others via coax. What is cool is that they all have the exact same experience and you can use it in up to 8 rooms, but only four TVs at the same time (one on the DVR, three via coax). Any TV with RVU built in -- Samsung and Sony are both a part of the RVU Alliance -- works without a set-top box, but for everything there's a small client. The new DVR obvioulsy needs more than two tuners to support all these clients but that information isn't public yet, but we were told it would be more than two tuners -- our guess is between four and eight. We were impressed and admit that this and 3D are two reasons we'll be seriously considering DirecTV as our HD provider.

This is looking way better than the 922. Especially for my system (15 TV's, 8 in-house channels). "DISH make my day . . ."

This could well be a solution for me, too!

Looks GREAT!

Awhile ago I remarked on the boards the 922 was taking so long to release it would be obsolete before release.........

E the latest greatest 922 IS OBSOLETE before release.

Hey the retailer news PDF posted here says!!!

No programing fee increase in Q1.

So my leak denied by scott that a programing increase may be coming just not immediately is now verified by E publically....

not

It doesn't verify anything, just states no price increase in programming Q1. So unless there is a price increase at another time which we haven't seen before happens it's only still supposition.

normally didnt E say no programming increase this year? Even GUARANTEE IT sometimes?

it appears a change to me.....

incidently I previously posted my source said a increase may be coming later.

no comments on receiver fees

Ok, can someone look at my example and tell me if this makes any sense?
I have a 722 and 622, and looking at dropping the 622 and buying a receiver on my own.

Current bill
34.99 Absolute w/locals
22 HBO/Starz
11.96 2 DVR fee
5.99 DHPP
5.00 Connect TV2 to telephone
7.00 DHA leased receiver

86.94 + taxes

If I buy a 222k from a place online @ 170, plus 40 for enable DVR, then 60 for a EHD, total invested 270. Drop DHPP, because I have never needed it at all.

New bill with only a 722 included in package
34.99 Absolute w/locals
22.00 HBO/Starz
6.00 DVR fee

62.99 + taxes

Bill goes down $24 a month???
Am I adding correctly?

John

VIP 222 will NOT do DVR. Only 211 and 211k
And even if you drop down to a 211 your only dropping 1 DVR fee. Verses a 622

keep phone or internet connected or add another fee, for non connection

scotts receiver fee list for easy reference

622, 622HZ, 722, 722k (Dish Duo HD DVR's) $17 Each
522, 625 (Dish Duo DVR's) $17 Each
222, 222k (HD Duo Receiver) $14 Each
322 (Duo Receiver) $14 Each
612 (HD Solo DVR Receiver) $10 Each
512 (Solo DVR Receiver (going to be announced at CES)) $10 Each
510 (Solo DVR Receiver) $10 Each
211, 211k, 411 (HD Solo Receiver) $7 Each
501, 508 (Solo DVR Receiver) $7 Each (I don't believe there is a DVR fee for these)
301, 311, 381 (Solo Receiver) $7 Each

keep phone or internet connected or add another fee, for non connection

Or put in a more positive tone, keep your receiver connected to a phone or internet and pay NO ADDITIONAL FEES. Its nice to have this option in these days of increased prices. Right, Bob?

you dont get it.

currently keeping phone plugged in waives extra outlet fee

feb1st........ extra outlet fee is built into receiver fee.so your price just went up

plus if you dont keep at least one receiver connected theres a new EXTRA FEE, although I dont know how much...........

Scotts first post said: a 6 dollar DVR fee per account, NOT per receiver. Also, no more fee for no phone line connect. So my other option would be: VIP 722 and 612

I want to get the most cost efficient setup that will suit my needs. I could do a 722 as my main receiver with either a 211 turned into a DVR or 612 as the secondary receiver.

I am ONLY thinking about what the price will be after the new pricing structure comes into effect.

34.99 Absolute w/locals w/722
22 HBO/Starz
10.00 Vip 612
6.00 DVR fee for account

$72.99

OR

722 leased and 211 owned outright
34.99 Absolute w/locals w/722 fee
22 HBO/Starz
6 DVR fee

62.99 and tax.

Right?

211, 211k, 411 (HD Solo Receiver) $7 Each

doesnt matter if you own or rent fee same in either case

Geez Bob, I don't blame you for being frustrated by a potentially true rumor, but you're beginning to sound like the guy that was planted in the crowd to start a riot.

Perhaps a good read in the book, "How to Win Friends and Influence People" would be helpful?

wow, didnt remember reading about a fee even if you own your own equipment. This is getting downright rediculous DISH
Yes, it is one thing to charge fees on leased equipment.

But to charge $17 a month extra to use your own two output DVR for which you paid hundreds of dollars, is borderline insanity... especially when the media has been constantly full of stories advising people to cut down their spending and save more money.

well scott posted no extra fee for no phone connection

and no programing increase.

my source who i really trust told me programing may go up just not immediately

and there will be a fee for no phone connection.

frankly all of this is a pia.

I WISH E or scott would have had solid info on the entire thing.

plus honestly the sucky weather has me down. I would go to florida but its cold there too.

this is thew time of year I try to go SOMEWHERE WARM PLEASE.

lastly I have tried to stir things up in hopes comments discourage E from what I believe to be a monumental mistake.

besides over the years I must of converted a minimum of a 100 friends and family to E, and I DONT want their calls of complaints!!!:( most have multiple DVRs:(
