Retailer Chat Recap: January 14, 2010

Wow, glad I didnt watch this thread in real time, becuase I thought they said interesting things were going to happen. And really nothing more then price changes that have already been explained. Unless there is more to come.

The DHPP is beinig renamed the "Servie Plan" and like I reported before to cancel the "Service plan" is going to cost you $25.

$15 Technician Fee is $15 with the service plan and $95 without the service plan.

I'll assume the Service plan is still 5.99 a month? Or is that going up as well!? BTW, what happens if a leased receiver craps out with no service plan?

I think it is going up a penny to $6.00 a month, but do not quote me on that.

The main problem with the pricing is -- it penalizes people for getting the hardware that has the features that distinguish Dish from cable and the other providers.

Previously, Dish could say "yes we don't have this game or this package, but everyone says our hardware is the best - here's a couple of 722s for free to sign up."

Now the pricing gives people a big incentive to send back their 722 and get lesser receivers.

I don't suppose they are saving the big HD announcement for after the questions.
It don't sound like it...

If they don't then I will post the list of channels which went up and are in testing now on Dish...

With that said just because those channels are testing does not mean they will ever be turned on...

so its $40 vs $95 still cheaper to cancel

No I think what he si saying is that it is $5.99 per month but if you cancel you pay $25 to do that and then pay for the service call.

So if you cancel and immediately need a tech it is $125.000 ($95.000 plus $20.00 ) instead of $20.99 (5.99 plus $15.00.

Of course you could cancel now and just wait for an incident thatr requiresa service call but that changes the math as well.

That it does. E* probably thinks their higher end customers will simply pony up and that the others won't be bothered to notice. They are likely correct. The subs with huge increases may look to offload hardware or go elsewhere. For me, none of the bundle deals will save any money compared to what I have now plus I'm not going to rock a huge increase like some will.

They are wrapping up the chat now by talking about Team Summit...

No mention of new HD on the chat.

So as I promised here is the list of HD that is currently up in testing on Dish Network. While the channels are in testing, it does not mean that customers will EVER see these channels. I have no idea or even a clue when these channel will launch.

Here we go..

TMP59 is testing E! HD
TMP60 is testing Hallmark E
TMP61 is testing Sportman
TMP63 is testing Outdoor Channel HD
TMP64 is testing TruTV HD
TMP65 is testing EPIX HD (Looks like SD only is getting launched this week)
TMP10 is testing BBC America HD
TMP11 is testing QVC HD
TMP12 is testing SHORTS HD
TMP13 is testing Showtime West HD
TMP14 is testing Retro HD (An Encore Channel)
TMP15 is testing Indie HD (An Encore Channel)

And there you have it. :)

Next Retailer Chat February 17th, and Charlie Chat on March 8th.
