Time Warner Digital Cable Random Unresponsiveness

All three of my Time Warner boxes freeze up intermittently throughout the day. They won't respond to any button presses on the remote for anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes. Once they do respond it will perform all of the button presses you made during the locked up time. It seems to be particularly bad at the top of every hour. I have contacted TW and they act like this is an isolated problem. Well, over the holiday I had occasion to be at two other homes who both have TW cable. Both are in different cities than me, and both have the exact same problem.

This problem has been persistent since I first got a single tuner DVR -- about two years. Since that time I've had two other DVR models, including the model I have now, which I believe is the newest available. On the configuration screen it says Model: DCT SW version: 75.54 - 4003. The model number on the STB is Motorola DCH3416.

Any advice would be appreciated.

You could try to unplug them from the wall for 1-2 minutes and then replug them back in. It will force the receiver reboot and will take 5-10 minutes. It will hopefully cure your problems.

Like I said in my original post, this problem has persisted for years, and I've had more than one occasion to reset my boxes by unplugging them over that time span -- including previous attempts to resolve this issue. It's never helped.

Thanks,
Matt
