Just thought I'd show you Guys what I did to my 8 ft solid Channel Master BUD. I mounted the extra C-band lnb on it yesterday, the two lnb's are aimed at the 91.0°w and 103.0°w and both are pulling in excellent QS. Today I mounted a Ku linear lnbf in between the two for the 97.0°w Ku sat. It's getting 98% QS on 11842 H 22000 3/4, much better than my 90cm dishes.

Nice!!
Was it difficult to tweak in the signal?

Thanks Guys! kbghdg, it was actually easier than I expected, it was more of a shot in the dark with a lot of guesstimating and after I mounted the scalar ring (the 91w lnb) I bent it down a tad for the curvature of the reflector and stuck in the lnb, hooked it up and there it was. I didn't do any tweaking whatsoever, I'm afraid to fool around with it, you know how that goes, right? This 8 ft Channel Master dish is excellent and so easy to pull in good signals but my 10.5 ft mesh is a mush! I'm having a lot of trouble getting a good signal on anything except for the 99w & 101w strong TP's.

Cool!
Is there any plans to add even more lnb's. Or is that about it. I always wondered if something like this would work. Especially for the western (cable type) channel arc. No more need for a dish mover. Like from 123° to 135° would be cool.:D But everyone said you need a 40 foot dish shaped like a para-sail.

Well, I didn't spend a lot of time trying to squeeze in more with the dish set straight on the 103W and I guess I was lucky to place the 91W lnb so far as it is, 12° is a long stretch and I imagine if I can go 12° to the east I can do the same to the west but there isn't anything I could get from the west side within 16° of the 103W.

My location in So Cal is on the fringe of the nearby sats neighboring on the west. And then the one's on the east side are either too far or too close for a possible fit to the existing mountings. Now if I were to swing the dish to the east I'd have to redo all the work and might not get much. My goal was to get the 91W & 103W C-band sats and I did. The 97W Ku was just an afterthought and it worked. I don't know yet if I can pick up any Ku sats from the western sky, I would try for the 121W and 125W but I think the dish is parked in a position too far east for those. This stuff takes time and I have a few other dishes that can fill the order with expansion. I'm going to try a C-band lnb and a Ku lnbf on a 90cm KTI dish later. I'll aim for the 121W C-band and 125W Ku signals.

Hi Mcguyver

can u take some pictures of the whole dish it will really help me to do some experiments in the future.

thanks Manny

`hello back Mcguyver

the last ? how far is the main lbn to the second ( c-band ) thanks again and that was a very goooood job A +++++

thanks Manny

you'll see the various setups I tested with. you can see other photos of mine as well in the Member's photo gallery, there are 4 pages of my photos and one album, just scroll through them:

This should help you get ideas.

As for your question, the two C-lnb's measure 10 inches apart from center to center, 12° degrees from the 91.0W to the 103.0W, I calculated that each (1) degree is equal to 1.2 inches. This does not apply to all dishes, the size and depth ((F/D) focal distance) of the reflector (dish) will determine where to place the lnb's. A simple method is to connect a lnb to a receiver and a TV at the dish location to see what you're doing, with the receiver set to look at a specific frequency on a specific satellite and watching the onscreen signal meter, hold the lnb in your hand and wand it around slowly in the vicinity of where you think it will be mounted and scan for a signal. Once you find the signal, aim it carefully for the best quality signal (holding it steady) and take note of it's location by measuring the best you can, I just used my hand as a spacer between the two scalar rings and it equalled 3.5 inches (the width of my palm). Then make the mounting bracket, install the lnb and tweak it for maximum signal. If at first you don't succeed, try and try again.

Good luck

At 1.2 inches per degree of the arc, you should be able to mount a handful of Ku LNBs on 2° Ku birds, if you so desire.
Even though regular Ku LNBs will see only the center of the dish, they'll work fine on that 8' solid dish.
If you wanted to experiment, the Ku LNBs with feeds that match center fed dishes should work better.
I'd give a link to one on SatAV's site, but it's not responding right now.

Here's a sketch of my current plans, I'm doing a complete makeover and moving all dishes to the ground. I ordered another motor and will be trying a mini bud on a motor, likely my old Stab HH120 for initial testing.

Anole, I just may add more Ku lnb's on it but it's questionable since the current lnb's block some of the nearby sats and being in it's current position, there's not a lot I can get or want within the L.O.S. west of the 103W bird.

And many thanks to Cadsulfide!
