SNL with Host Betty White

Was better than I thought it would be. Not because of her...but rather the poor writing that has prevailed this year.

I think the guest host make a huge difference. One that can pull off stuff successfully makes a huge difference. It lets the writers do more. Some hosts I think hamper the writers too much. Plus the guest host can have their own suggestions, and if they are an experience comic they can really help.

A terrible show. Bad Writing and the worst cast since the 1980's. And did you see all of the screw ups during the Census Skit? Tina Fey wasn't even making eye contact with Betty White. She's reading from cue cards the whole time. No rehearsal anymore? Then at the end you see the cue cards when the door opens . The ratings must be in the toilet most of the time for SNL

Somehow, I'm not surprised you would take that stance, since you find Jay Leno funny. Unless you're lying again, of course...

Best show of the season, not just because of Ms. White, but having the female alumni members there allowed them to reprise some funny sketches from the past. NPR was good and Maya Rudolph's Whitney Houston was spot on....

...hey, that's because Jay Leno is indeed much more talented than Angry David Letterman and Conan O'Whinen.

I no longer watch SNL due to the poor writing and god awful cast, but I did watch the Betty White episode and thought the episode was pretty good. It's too bad they'll be back to the stinkfest next week.

You need to stop the personal attacks and stick to the subject of the thread. If you found the show funny that's ok, but most find SNL to be hitting rock bottom.

The humor of SNL is geared towards a younger audience. The older we get, the less funny SNL becomes. My kids find the show quite funny and I find it funny in spots. To say "most" find SNL to be hitting rock bottom may be an overstatement of a personal opinion.

I did see the opening skit and found it funny. Haven't had time to watch the rest but will soon.

I stopped watching at the "music" performance.

Were there any comedy bits later on that weren't in some way related to lesbian humor?

The only time they get the ratings is when they have special guest like Betty White and Sarah Palin. And I trashed other years of SNL before they got it right again. The early 1980's wasn't funny either but the show bounced back in the 1990's. It's not the show most people look forward to watching anymore.

Actually, most here seem to be at least somewhat positive about the episode, with you being the only detractor. So, if you think it's so bad, why do you continue to watch??

Most of the time I do not look forward to watching... infact I DVR it and normally dont watch it unless someone says hey did you see that funny Skit on SNL last week?"

But the Betty White episode I really looked forward to, and I thought she hit a homerun. As I said best episode in a long long time.

The original SNL cast (circa 1975) had everyone in stiches: kids, parents, grandparents, etc.) Of course, I have seen a few episodes over the years on comedy central (or whatever) and they weren't nearly as funny.

Yeah, but she was still portrayed as being a "dirty minded" old lady type as I recall them bleeping out the "F" and "S" words in some recorded segments. Personally, the dirty jokes and references got old after a few times and I wish they had done something else.

I haven't watched it for many months. I recorded it and skipped by the bad skits so it didn't take me long to watch the entire show. And I did what many did, I watched to see if Betty White could save a terrible show. She held her own but she only had so much to work with. And I know I'm not the only one who thinks SNL has jumped the shark, I just happen to be the most vocal.

Speaking of SNL if you ever see them again go back and look at the SNL shows from the 1980's when they had really bad shows. Before Dana Carvey and others came on . Someone was talking to me about the show and he told me he heard they had people in the audience being paid to laugh at the skits. I had no reason not to believe him but I still wanted to hear it for myself. So I watched the repeats and I heard about 2 to 3 people week after week laughing very loud and it sounded like the same people. I also think a reporter in a news story called them out on it as well.
