Echostar 15 launch update


How can you tell on that website where the info for Echostar 15 is?

Proton-M Intended for Launch of Ecostar-15 Delivered to Baikonur

A train which arrived to Tura-tam railway station closest to the space port facilities of Baikonur has delivered a Proton-M rocket to be used for further commercial launch of US satellite Echostar 15 in July.
After the customs clearance, the rocket and its parts were transported to site 92. Specialists of Khrunichev and Yuzhny Space Centers began unloading of the cargo.

I can't understand that. Is it still on schedule for July 10th? Is it going straight to 61.5 or somewhere else for testing purposes first? When will viewer like us start seeing signals from it?

The rocket for the E15 launch was just delivered to the launch processing facility. So far, it looks like E15 is on schedule for the 7/10/10 launch date. E15 will probably be tested at another slot before moving to 61.5. It usually takes E* around 50 to 60 days to get a sat operational after launch. I would expect to see signals from E15 starting in Sept. providing everything goes well with the launch.

It will go directly to 61.5W. Say 10 days to get there and another 10-15 days to check it out.

E 14 took a lot less than that to be up and running. Think nelson has the inside track on this.
 
Have they ever gone directly to the final location without testing elsewhere? It would seem very hard to test at the final location, what with other sats transmitting from there.
 
But they'll need to test freqs that are in use at that location, no? I suppose they can rotate with a few open freqs, but that's got to slow things down.
 
I see no point in testing elsewhere when they're already down 5 transponders. They can bring those up and test, move active channels over, shut down 5 more E3 transponders, and repeat.

I think this is probably why they filed to go direct to 61.5W. And, they seem to be hurrying things along for whatever reason.

I'm speculating, just like everyone else. The 10 days to geo is a normal launch to geo time period Since they are going directly on station, they cut out two or three weeks in drifting from test to station. And, it's a single Conus beam, no spots. The time involved in testing a single beam, either spot or Conus is probably similar so they would need way less work to get this one going when compared to the spot beam satellites.
 
I think they think that E3 could be toast in 2 months. They probably have some indications that more failures are about to happen. Better to test in place than to lose service.
