With Dish, if you already had HD+HD Platinum @$10 total and had auto-pay, you get grandfathered in to the HD for Life deal with no action on your part to do it.

Just got off the phone with directv customer service. I asked about HD free for life and was told that it was only being offered for new customers. But................she checked my account and said I good get it free for 2 years. Maybe at the end of two years things will change to the point that it will be free for everybody. For now I'm happy with the two free years.

Just called and it was a no go. This was after 2nd person told me I could get it and had a problem doing the transaction and transferred me to a 3rd person. He said it was only for new customers with the promotion starting today. I told him that existing customers were getting wrong end of this deal when especially it can save them $120 per yr. He did not offer me anything else.

This has pushed me to serious consider Dish w/ the annual savings as a new customer. My question is that my 2-yr conntract is not up until Feb. How much would I be looking at to cancel?

Were you forced into auto pay?

Seems pretty crappy to me. I'm a 10+ years existing customer so I have to pay $10/month for HD and $5 more/month for HD extra or whatever it's called and new customers will get it free for life ?

I can deal with new customers getting deals on equipment but to offer free HD for life to new customers and make the existing customers keep on paying for it sucks !!

Tell them you would like your $ 120 per yer BACK :D

Let us know what they say ....

I just called them, asked for free HD, and they gave it too me.

$10 less on my bill for the next 2 years.

Just got off the phone with Dtv, I asked nicely what it would cost me to cancel service. They asked why, told them that Dish has free hd for life for ALL customers. The guy immediately said they can give me free hd for 2 years and then can call back in 2 years and get it again. BUT, because I don't already have HD service I have to commit for 2 years. I have been a customer for 5. They also will do the installation and provide a receiver for free. Then after all this he said because I've been a good customer they are taking 10 off my bill for a year.
I set up the appt. but still thinking of switching over to dish, they now offer my locals which is also a big pull and would have to sign up for 2 years there as well, so no difference really....they have a couple more channels in a package a little cheaper too.

The credits for new customers with this offer are absolutely ridiculous.

$24 credit month 1-12 / $14 month 13-24
$5 credit month 1-12 for signing up for spamvertising
$10 HD for Life credit
$10 Referral credit for 10 months

Sold. 7/2 Install date set.

Remember, you do have a 2 yr contract w/ dish [or pay $99 w/o contract] but don't forget in the 1st yr you also get $15 off monthly of your base pkg.. I went back w/ dish [had them before] today after my experience w/ directv csr on this issue [see earlier post and I was not going to call again and play csr roulette]. They are coming to do the installation tomorrow. I got America's top 250, free hd, 3 room installation [duo hd dvr, which is better, standalone hd receiver], for $64 monthly for 1st yr [did not get any premium channels just only 1st 3 months of hbo and showtime]. I still have to pay directv $160 cancellation fee but the savings in the long run will be worth it.

Plus, when football season is here I'll subscribe to sports pak to get the redzone channel for $7 per month, instead of forking out $300 for just redzone. :)

Dish would be a good choice for me if they offered EI and did not screw us west coast HD RSN markets with constant JIPs and no shows.

Except you can no longer watch the games of your choice.
I find ST to be a much better deal than RZ, but thats just my opinion, others don't care to watch the games, although I've never understood that.

I just went thru and compared HD channels, Dish has far more. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna switch, think it's worth it.

Regarding sunday ticket, you do have a large selection of games to choose from, but it was too much for me to keep up with, and found myself mainly watching my local team, redzone, and if there was a big matchup I could not get on my local channel. I'll still see enough games on sun and mon nights.

The question you want to ask yourself is ......

Do you or would you watch any of the OTHER channels you say they have more of ...

Also, will you wish you stayed when D* passes DISH in HD count in the next month or so ?

I really don't care who has MORE HD, provided they are crisp quality channels. Also, what good are the other channels if they are nothing your interested in ?

Fwiw, theres about 50-100 channels now that D* has that I have NO NEED for.

and if you want sports in HD...even your local team...do you want it in HD guaranateed (unless for some reason the game isnt being broadcast in HD) or "maybe in HD" but we wont know until Dish decides to figure out what games get the privilege of being in HD tonight

See, my main priority is MY team as well, but I really enjoy catching the end of games once my game is over, with ST you can do that easily.

I tried watching the RZ channel last year and found that as soon as I got interested in a game they changed the game, many times it would show one play and move to another.
