6/22/2010 9:45am - Uplink Activity Report - 33 changes

Disney legally had the right to pull their feeds and they did - it's a negotiating tactic. Dish did not pull the feed.

You'd be singing a much different tune if Dish had already folded and your bill went up by $5/month next February.

Well if cheapo Charlie would just pay the carrage fee that Disney wants then they would not have to pull the channels. But Charlie decides he wants to keep our prices cheap yet he still raised our rated twice this year. He is the biggest hypocrite I have even seen and I have seen some big ones.

I have just received an official statement from DISH on this issue...

DISH Network offers all customers HD Free for Life, which is possible because we are committed to negotiating fair contracts that allow us to keep our prices low. That is why we could not agree to the significant fees requested by Disney and ESPN Networks for the HD feeds of Disney East, Disney XD, ESPNews and ABC Family. We continue to talk with Disney and ESPN Networks and hope to reach a fair resolution. In the meantime, DISH Network customers can enjoy the same programming on the standard definition versions of these channels.

This is insane... do they really think I've went out and purchased a HD tv, equipment and so on just to watch standard definition versions of this?!

This would be like going to some steak house, ordering the steak without it being cooked. I'll get on chat and complain in a few, I just wanna go on record with perhaps many many others about how pissed I am about this, but I still go on record that if they want to keep these off and give me ESPNUHD I'll be happy again! :D

It is interesting that Disney wants to charge more for HD feeds than SD feeds. The real question of course is why? They do everything in HD anyways and have to down res it for SD. It takes more equipment now for them to provide SD.

It is just another example of the mindset that HD is a premium instead of a standard service. HD used to be premium, now it is the standard.

Providers should drop the SD versions of channels now. Why is Dish forced to waste bandwith on EA with SD channels when all the receivers on EA are HD and can downres if needed?

Dish took a step in the right direction with free HD for life, but really it should just be free and not have all the T&C that they stuck on it. It would force others in the industry to go along and that would force providers to not charge more for HD.

I don't care if they add ESPNU HD as sports always bored me to death. The channels I cared about the most they removed so cheapo billionaire Charlie can save us a dime but raise us a dollar on a our bill.

The main reason so many of us would like to see ESPNU in HD is due to College football games that get pushed to it when the others are full. I for one can't stand watching a football game anymore unless its in HD or I'm at the stadium.

Well you can watch your College snoozeball for all I care I just want the Disney channels back in HD until then I refuse to watch them in SD since they look so bad and not widescreen.

Ok so your not a fan, which puts you in a minority of people that subscribe. From my understanding ESPN channels cost Dish subs more than any other channels or groups of channels pretty much since the majority of subs are sports watchers. ESPN is pretty much the main carrier of all CFB games and just recently signed a contract to carry all the bowl games plus all of the BCS bowl games now pulling them away from Fox.

The problem with all of this is Disney, Disney/ABC/ESPN all the same now which makes it really a big entity to contend with on any level.

CHEAPSKATE CHARLIE

:DWhat you should do Charlie is turn off the rest of your HD channels. :rolleyes:You really dont want to pay for them anyway. I have never seen a company that has so many contract disputes or legal ramblings in my life!!!! Maybe it is really time for a change at the top before you actually run the whole thing in the ground!

Does that mean that you are leaving Dish? I Hope! I hope!

HAHA not in your lifetime!

Yep, and you'll never see and discount.

Don't sweat it, all the Dish Die hards will NEVER admit when E* F's Up.

They all just act like its no big loss.

Yep and when you point out a weak spot like HDRSN's you get chastised and thrown in the corner of the room with a dunce hat..

Dish isnt intrested in fixing problems, they are only intrested in a profit like ATT. I think its high time that Corp. America clean up their act!

You know what if Charlie was gettting away Scott free without paying for the channels, then why in the hell were we paying an HD enabling fee to recive hd service for all of these many years? I smell a class action lawsuit. There should be an independent audit of dish's records. They are publicly traded and heald as such.

I'm begining to seriously wonder if its time for charlie to step down. I know that charlie is a good guy and I would pick him up any day of the week to help him out, but theres a point to where you have to slaughter the cow nomatter how much you love it!

Well technically we did pay for them until last month...

This is a BIG deal in my house for my kid AND me, just look at my avatar...lol. I don't care who did the pulling of channels. Dish needs to get this straightened out ASAP.
I'm glad I got alot of Phineas and Ferb on the DVR!!

Was going to watch Aaron Stone tommorow and the new Disney channel movie on Friday but now forget it. I will rather miss it than watch it in cruddy SD.

If Charlie would just pay the fee Disney wants instead of being the usual cheap skate that he is everything would be fine. No matter if he pays or not he will still find a excuse to raise our rates in a few months.

Another way to look at it is, "Why when I was young we didn't have any of these what's its H-E or H-D channels. We had TWO channels and you turned the dial to "U" and there were maybe 3 more channels you got by turning the SECOND dial.. and that only worked if you got the coat hanger sticking out of the top of the TV pointed just right! ...And by tar nation we LOVED it!"
