New FTA service with 20 english channels

Just a slight interpretation of their satement: EPG has been provided for but has not been populated by most of the uplinkers / networks. RT and one other (AJE?) do have working EPGs but those are provided by the networks.

As an example none of the TBN networks provide an EPG; and could not provide one. (As of 6 weeks ago, when I last checked) They can not even provide one the their own network stations, even by internet or FAX! If you get one from D* or E* it is only a guess and from the published newsletter.

I don't see the guide on RT--did awhile back but no more. My local OTA TBN Networks all have an OTA guide shows up on my TV.

interesting....mine in Minneapolis just says "TBN", "TCC", "SOAC", "JCTV" AND "TBN-E" for the guide...maybe because its a low powered station here

In my opinion they would have a better chance of selling "their" boxes if they paid attention to what other features are on fta-ers wish list.

My last box purchase allowed me to get hd sat channels, hd local channels on an sd tv and eliminated the need for a seperate box for ac-3. All of these new features combined convinced me to upgrade. Only one of them, or getting epg for any channels would not have gotten me to spend money.

Most fta channels don't have a functional epg, right? More channels without epg is something I can live with.

The RT guide works on the SatHawk, along with Al Karma and a couple of Indonesian channels which come up gibberish because it doesn't have the font for them. I'm not getting any guide on Al Jazeera right now.

Russia Today EPG works fine on my dreambox, looking at the 0x12 and 0x11 pid data it looks fine as well. I cant see just at a quick glance why it wouldnt work for you

Sorry. Thought you were implying that local over the air network tv was ending in September and that I had missed something.

This has been in the works for months now, they have tried to get the networks (ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX) involved but something happened and they dropped them from the lineup.

Their press releases say the have been testing, so I assume they must have already leased TP????

Wonder how long it will take to go live???

When we switch over to mpeg-4 only, we will also be enacting a proprietary Guide that will only work with a authorized HD mpeg-4 receiver.
Other mpeg-4 receivers should still receive our channels but not the guide.

I saw some comments about having a receiver just to work with this service.
Depending on who supplies those receivers, they -may- contain support for many other services we'd like.
Of course, if it's made to be cheap, the feature list may be pretty sparse.

Dealing direct with a Korean manufacturer is probably beyond the abilities of the company.
So, I hope SatAV is involved. He's done well by us in the past.
And, I wouldn't be surprised if two models were offered: cheap, and fully-packed.

For those getting the EPG on RT, how far ahead does your Russia Today EPG go? It only lists the current hour on my Coolsat 8000.

At the moment I'm not getting ANY guide on RT, nor on Al Karma. That's weird because they're not even on the same transponder. I know it's not my receiver because I'm still getting the guide on the Indonesian channels (Hits And Health and one other one.)

I can look to see if there is much difference in elf on Russia today and the indoneasean ones. But it doesn't help much as we have no src
