OK
Anyone messed with this on the new HR24's?? Don't have that option been trying to get it setup with Win7.. I can see both receivers but trying to get the receivers to pull up photos so forth.. I have a HomeGroup setup as well.

I did and have problems initially. I deleted the HomeGroup in both Windows 7 computers, rebooted and created a new one. That worked for me.

Yeah that did it the reboot.. Yeah trying this out see how it works so forth a friend was asking about so thought I would try it out.

I think it's OK but a little slow for me. When you have thousands of pictures and songs, well let's just say I rather use the PC which is already connected to the TV and play songs and view pictures from there. Nice feature though.

Yeah plays music well so far and I choose folder view that way pulls it up by folder. Yeah my wife got allot of photos and it does delay some but not to bad..

What type of video files will it play??

I hadn't tried videos but I just tried MPEG videos and guess what? You can fast forward, pause, rewind, etc. This is from the H24 not the DVR.

Now, that I like. :D

Poke,

Where did you see the folder view option?

Yeah plays music well so far and I choose folder view that way pulls it up by folder.

Edit: Never mind, found it. :)

Oh nice. I didn't know the H24 was capable of playing video from a PC. Makes me more excited about tomorrows install.

Media share also works if you have a program like PlayOn on your pc. It allows you to watch netflix, hulu, amazon vod, ESPN 3, ect right on your HR streamed from the pc.

One of my favorite features. Although on my HR-23 it can be slow to start sometimes. It is faster on my 20, and I would assume to be even faster on the 24.

Do you have rewind/fast forward via PlayOn on your receivers. I love the quality and am fine with the start speed on my HR24....I just can't stand not being able to REW/FF.....be it regular video files or HULU.

LMK!

I THINK so. I will try to remember to check this evening and tell you for sure.

I know I do when I use it with my xbox or PS3

Just installed PlayOn, I can't FF or RW on the movies I've tried so far, but pause works. SD videos works great. HD is pretty choppy. I have a quad core processor and a good video board so that shouldn't be the issue. I can stream HD to my 360 & PS3 just fine. Just wonder if the HR24 can handle streamed HD content or its hindered by the DECA. I have an ethernet connection to the all my receivers and wonder if playback would improve. Anyone have an comparisons between the two?

Except for those running Viiv (which is no longer being produced), FF and RW won't work. Pause only works for several seconds (until the buffer runs out). HD is limited somewhat by restrictions in the maximum data rate which the DVRs will accept (which is somewhere around 5000-7000 kbps). I don't see any issues with DECA, however.

I have some media share issues with my HR24 that don't exist on my HR21 or H24:
Videos in 16:9 format are detected as 4:3 (but can be stretched with the FORMAT key).
Photos with width > height will not display.

I don't use the HR24 for Media Share anymore since my Samsung Blu-ray player does a much better job (although it has some of its own issues).

Yup, the bitrate definitely makes a difference on how well it plays. Most of mine play good, but the higher bit rate ones are very choppy.

how do you get to the media share on the HR24? A certain channel, menu, somewhere in the recorded programs list?

It will show up on the Menu but you must have a PC running first so it can share with your HR24.

Does the HR23 support the same Video formats as the HR24? I ask because I am able to play a M2TS file on my receiver, but a friend is unable to.
