CONFIRMED(?)- Dish Discontinuing Absolute HD Package

So you are indicating they were not making a profit in the past? That's hard to believe.

Oh yes they were making money, they just want more now. :) Nothing wrong with wanting to make more money but don't tell customers that their prices are low, they're not anymore.

I would be very upset if I had Absolute. Just as I was upset when they raped me for multiple Duo DVRs, but it is not just Dish. The new corporate mantra throughout America for publicly traded companies is increase the share price at all costs.

Long time subs mean nothing to Charlie or Directv or ATT etc, etc.

Share price is the only thing that matters. Customers be damned.

Greed is very powerful and now drives corporate America.

well what went wrong at E?

D and cable grew while only E shrank........

I left dish for ota + tivohd + netflix and have come back. I looked at all the options, and they were still the best deal.

TWC charges almost $20/mo extra for each HD-DVR box and they are junk. PQ does not compare to E* or D*. E* was still still cheaper than D* for a comparable package and equipment.

I own all my equipment and I really wish they wouldn't charge the same fee as leased units.

I WISH i would have gotten in on the Absolute deal. It sucks that this is happening.

I would think they would want to at least hold on to their share of the market. Then again maybe they feel they won't be able to do that and want to maximize profit from their remaining subs which would keep investors at bay......At least for a while. I can not speak for other areas of the country but both D* and E* are taking a beating in my area because of bundling with other providers. TWC and u-verse are expanding into areas I didn't think they ever would. Folks around here because of the economy are looking every way they can to save a few bucks. D* and E* are still most prevalent in the poorer neighborhoods and the trailer parks in the out lying areas, but in the middle income neighborhoods like mine I am seeing fewer and fewer satellite dishes. I want higher internet speeds and the only way I can do that is to go with a cable provider. If I can bundle and save a few bucks in the process why not? I will give u-verse a spin before deciding what to do about Dish. I do not want to leave Dish because I like what I have but ultimately my wallet will make the decision for me. I wonder how well Dish will be doing 5 years from now? If they continue with their recent practices I know they will be a faded memory in this house.
I dislike quoting my own post but on a foot note there is something about Dish that I will always be grateful for. Because of installation and receiver problems I found the best internet site there is.;)

Anyone see Disney's 3Q? Up 40% ytd, steamed to a large part by ESPN. Carriage fees were not mentioned, but you know they were a significant part of it. I'm still with Charlie on this one.

Yeah, I read this in today's newspaper. I thought about Dish dropping those channels that we all paid for, yet Disney is the one with the 40% increase. Like I said before, Disney is not the company it once was...no matter what PR they try to put out there.

Is Dish purposefully trying to piss off their long time customers??

What in the hell is going on?

Scott, can you inform Charlie of this mini-revolution by his (formerly) loyal subs that is going on? A little email to him or something.

Does he even care?

How do you propose that he make programmers keep their hd channels in this package?

That's the issue he it's not Charlie wanting to piss people off.

Don't bother to try to explain Scott, it will just fall on deaf ears. (or blind eyes in this case)

Some are better at being greedy than others. All of them will keep doing it until the vast majority of customers vote with their wallet. Problem is, there are still enough new potential customers that they don't care if existing subs cancel.

Most people don't care about being gouged in todays society. They may shrug their shoulders or make a whimper, but they will continue to pay.

Look at this thread and the receiver fee thread. Perhaps 10 people threatened to cancel and maybe 2 or 3 actually did. The bean counters know this and will keep turning the greed screws until something major happens.
