i would recommend help when taking down a (roughly) 10' birdview!!!!

i was doing a directv install today, and right across the street i saw a birdview that still even had the sticker on it so i had to stop and ask about it.
they gave me the green light, so i took it down and darn near killed my back.
they even still had the old birdview receiver and a HEAVY 3 button remote control!!
the dish was solid rolled steel and was 3 or so feet longer than the bed of the nissan.
the receiver has turn knobs and no slot in the back for any module and no actuator controller.
this thing is a piece of satellite history!!!
i got about 6 feet of the pole with it also, it looks about 6" diameter.
i still need to get my buddy with a bigger truck to go back and get the bowl, but i got the lnb, struts, mount, pole, receiver, and remote already.

Two guys should grab the dish while a third takes the last bolts out to remove it from the mount.
Three guys can move the dish well enough.

One guy can lift the motor off the pole and carry it, but two is much more wise!
It tends to wiggle on ya, and that makes it tricky.

I wouldn't remove the LNB/scalar/arms in the field.

If you sat the dish in a pickup, I'd like to see pictures

ALSO... measure across the rim of the dish, and tell us what you find.
AND, take a magnet, and touch it to the dish.
I'm sure these two tests will give you quite the education.

except for the bowl, splash plate, or whatever you call it, still need to go back with a bigger truck and pick it up.
i have had a couple 8' mesh dishes in the back of this truck and this baby wouldn't fit, i'm not sure about the exact size, but it is definitely bigger than an 8' mesh dish:up

Lesson learned eh? Well, I might've been tempted to jump that quick on a free birdview too.
Back when they came out, there was no scrambling, so no need for any slots in the receivers, modules, etc.

If that dish is bigger than 8'-6 you have found the first documented (that I know of) BV dish that is larger than that.

9' and/or 9'-6 dishes are mentioned in the old sales literature but I have never seen one. That would be great if it's what you got. :up

BV only made 2 dishes ever. One was elliptical shape then they decided just to go w/ the bit over 8 spun AL dish. Both weighted a ton and declination was set to an offset that was for the center of the US.

Interesting, I have never seen one configured as a fixed dish. If you get a chance I'd like to see a pic of whatever they used to lock the dish in position.

The good news is if you found that one, there are probably more BVs around, and your reflector will fit a motorized mount. I'm pretty sure it will have the same hole pattern and spacing.

I must have missed those when you first posted them, or more likely, at that time, didn't have a clue or care what I was looking at.

Interesting that BV designed a different mount top plate, a lesser company probably would have just scabbed something onto the "standard" motorized top plate and made it work.

And that buttonhook is a doozy, I'm guessing whoever put that on there did it so they could use that feed setup. They should have called us and we could have learned them how to oversize the hole in the OEM scalar to use something that would have worked for them.

i found a white metal c-band dish that is offset that has an outline where a sticker was that looks like it was a birdview sticker
it has 4 or 5 flat metal rods from the bottom of the dish spaced fairly close together holding the lnb
i've just seen it from the road so far but i'm planning to get a better look at it and ask about it tomorrow.

Does it look like these pics? If so, it may be a BV "Spoon"...and a magnet WILL stick to one of those.

Outstanding! I could actually hold the LNBF a couple of inches behind the scalar ring and still get Q levels higher than I get on my 90 cm dishes.

well, i went and got the dish today, pix attached

and Anole, you were absolutely correct, it measures 8' 6" and is aluminum.
turns out that my other so called 8' mesh dishes are actually closer to 7' 6"

i have to hide it in the woods for another 6 months or so till me and my wife buy a house because my landlord would freak out about it if he seen it.

i also stopped by and asked about that birdview spoon i spotted.
the woman wants $100 for it with me taking it down.
