Copykat and ynnedibanez, Thanks for the info. I noticed last night that it saves the correct-updated channel name in favorites. However when you rescan, it changes the channel back to the defaulted name on the main channel list. The favorite name stays at the name that you changed it too. After all these months I never had messed with the editing part of the Sathawk...I was too busy watching Tv lol...Copykat I'll try the idea you posted and see what happens...Blind

Using the editor, on the channels that you don't want a scan to change, change the Service ID to "0". The scan will then not see those channels as part of the stream and will not overwrite them with new data.

What you are doing, in this case, is making a manual channel, but instead of you having to fill in all the parameters, you let a scan do it and just edit the name and Service ID.

The only problem then would be if the channel has EPG data or is a subscription channel and you have a card that needs the Service ID in order to know what channel to descramble. But since this doesn't usually apply to most of what we watch FTA, it's shouldn't be a problem.

Of course, a rescan will add that channel to the end of the list, so you can either delete it or if the pids have changed, you can edit it and delete the old channel.

Thanks a lot for that info. Tried it and works well. Just have to delete them
on a rescan as you say but that's quick and easy.

Hi,

One quick question or two, what do I have to do to activate the S-PDIF on this receiver? I connected it to my AMP and nothing happen. Is this jack for show or does it actually works?

Thanks

I'm having a brain lapse this weekend and now its monday. I was trying to hook up my motorized KU dish and my motorized Cband using the Gbox to the Sathawk and an Ecoda switch. I set the Ku dish to 22Khz and the Cband to "0". Lnb to the Gbox,,,,out from the Gbox into the Sathawk. Both dishes appeared to be moving at the same time. I gave up and put it back the way I had it...What did I do wrong? I didn't have this much fun when I had 5 dishes on the Fortec Dynamic.....Thanks Blind

The Ecoda switch is passing the same motor commands to both controls, it doesn't block anything. You might try a different brand of 22khz switch, or maybe a Diseqc switch . My Ecoda switches worked the same way when I tried to handle two motors with them. Both motors responded.

Brent, Thanks I might try a disecq switch. Maybe I read this in some old posts last year. No big deal just trying to make it easier for the spouse if she ever bothers using it...lol....Blind

135 pages of drama

That's an incredible story about the confrontation of WorldDVB and users in an effort to improve this box. The most dramatic moment - when you begun to sell your boxes.
:no I want to add my 5c for this story.
Use Sadoun site to buy this box. Yes, if you bay direct from China, you can save $40 - $50, but... Front panel of mine was totally destroyed! PCBs cracked. I spend one week to put everything together. F*ng remote lost connections from positive contact of battery to LED when i pushed some buttons. And I can't send it back or discuss this issue with UPS because... according the docs they sent me "something other". :) Now, it work: i know where the handle of soldering iron.

Some info for anyone who want to study firmware:
1. In .abs file you can find "gcc version 3.4.4 mipssde-6.06.01", where MIPS SDE Lite -"MIPS Technologies’ Software Development Environment for MIPS-Based products". Google it.
2. JTAG soft and schematic - icegsm[dot]narod[dot]ru.
3. Spanish site about AzAmerica S900HD (az-world) have same tech info.
4. Ethernet controller LAN9220. Google datasheet for it. Linux kernel have src.
5. xxx[dot]mips[dot]com/products/product-materials/processor/mips-architecture/
See "MIPS32 Instruction Set Quick Reference (.pdf)" for memory organization and mapping.
6. Google ALI SDK.
7. See xxx[dot]mips[dot]com/products/system-software/linux/ for MIPS Linux kernel src.

My bad I accidently hit enter. Sorry

I'm hoping someone can help me with my situation. A couple of days ago I noticed that my remote was not able to control my receiver. I did the reboot and factory reset and still nothing. I can control the unit manualy but that is it. The remote that came with this receiver is the newer version. Do I need a software upgrade?

Do you have a camcorder, or a digital still camera with an LCD viewfinder? Point the remote at it and see if it lights up when you push the buttons. (Consumer-grade CCDs are incredibly sensitive to near-infrared, even after the filtering done to keep natural IR from screwing up the exposure and focus calculations.)

Another thought: is the new remote a multi-function remote? If so, push the satellite button -- one of the other function buttons may have been pushed accidentally. I somehow do this all the time with my Dish remotes.

We will be getting a small qty of PVR800 in 2-4 weeks that will cover our backorder and any new orders until then. Currently we are out of stock.

A newer HD model may follow (i.e. PVR900) with the same features as the PVR800 except:

  • No CI/CA
  • No Scart connection (useless for USA)
  • No ethernet connection (not needed for our target customers)
  • Newer IR remote control
  • Lower price
Estimated Introduction time: September 2010 (subject to change)

:)

What was the use of the ethernet connection on the PVR800? Was it for network storage? Was it ever able to stream a live feed to another device (even another PVR800)? Depending on the capabilities of the ethernet adapter, this might be a nice feature to keep.

Is this litterally going to be the only differences? Otherwise, all the same guts (tuner, demod, display) the same as the PVR800?

Has a new version of this receiver been released yet? I'm looking for a receiver that pretty much would do everything that this one advertises to do and was actually about to order this from Sadoun however from the looks of it, a new receiver is on it's way. Any news?

I dont think there is going to be a new sathawk version.I believe Sadoun is selling the openbox receiver now.Someone in another thread just got one from sadoun and is very happy with it.

It was me... just 've got Openbox S9 from Sadoun with new firmware (HDS2-10-07-11:072AMT) to replace old Coolsat 5000. Shipping was very fast ( 1 week to Ottawa, ON) and I'm quit happy with this gadget.
I've try firmware from Sadoun web site (HDS2-10-06-29-:026BMT), but I like better new version which receiver come with. Strangely, on the box itself there is sicker (seal) with writting in cyrylica (russian alphabet), but box is made in China.
Today I was able to test combination motor and switch; everything works as expected.

BTY: Remote, after a week, still smels like swiming pool , what the heck they are made from???
