The Sooners redeemed themselves with a nice beatdown of FSU, but this weekend they have a trap game against Air Force. Everything OU does well on defense is negated by the AF triple option offense. As an AF veteran, I have torn loyalties here.

The ugly weekend of football.....

The U showed why they are still not ready for playing big teams on the road. This game will be a learning experience where protection of the football is key to all teams. You will not beat ANY TEAM with 4 turnovers deep in your side of the field....much less a top tier like Ohio State. BUT, the good news is that it was earlier in the season AND Miami has proved they are not afraid to play big teams at their house. The U has ducked no one and their very tough schedule to start the season and this year will prove that....too bad alot of those top tier teams refuse to play a home-and-home series of games and that is the only way they will play the U. The goal of the season was to win the ACC and play in a BCS bowl game and that is still very attainable.

OK I will take an ugly W over a gorgeous L any day...but this was really ugly. Thoughts...
1. I'll start with the positive. Great running day for Terrell. It's funny, he doesn't have breakaway speed and he also cuts back into pressure once in a while, but he has the ability to quickly accelerate to top speed without making it look like he's doing so. Very deceptive.
2. Some nice runs by Boom Herron.
3. Sanzenbacher has hops.
4. Some nice hits by the DB's early to set the tone.
5. Cameron Heyward would not have made it to the end zone even if the Miami O walked off the field after he made his interception. He was getting wobbly before Miami caught up to him.
6. Unfortunately the pre-Rose Bowl Terrell showed up in this game. Sweet holy moly he looked bad in the pocket way too often. Jumpy feet, bad decisions, forced throws. Ugh. It seemed like half of his passes either went right through a Miami DB's hands, or just missed them by a quarter of an inch. Not good.
7. The 'bad' Jim Tressel was back live as well. The Vest goes into panic mode too. Up 12 with ten minutes left, Miami has the ball, and you go to prevent defense? Keep everything in front of you? Letting Jacoby Harris eat up yardage with easy ten yard completionds down the field, making sure not to let anybody behing the DB's...even though nobody had gotten behind the DB's all day when OSU was playing 'normal' defense? Did you really want Miami to score, as long as they take five minutes off the clock doing it? Is that really the plan? Well, that plan stinks, Jim.
8. Fortunately Miami is not good enough to score even when OSU was trying to let them score. Not impressed with Harris at all. I know his receivers didn't help him much, but he doesn't seem to have the tools to compete at this level. Perhaps he'll prove me wrong and if he does good for him, but this was not Florida B&O he was playing like he was last week, he actually had to do something this week...and he didn't.
9. Funny, the score could have been 36-10 without the abomination of the OSU coverage teams, (and even worse if Ohio State had punched it in at the end before Tressel called for a knee), but it was still a bad game for the Buckeyes.
10. Hate for Miami? Au contraire...I love those guys! They come into your stadium and absolutely hand you a game...what's not to love?

A win is a win but there wasn't much nice about it! If they play like that against Iowa and Wisconsin the outcome will not be so favorable.
To me it felt like a loss.

Take them as they come. Whether is was a great win or a "ugly" win.... A win is a win. PERIOD. IF they play where the Buckeyes make no mistakes, as in turnovers, they are the type of team that can win those games. Elite teams can and will do that. For as much as folks bitch about how conservative Tressell runs his offense....it is, by the most part, MISTAKE FREE football.
Paterno has had conservative game calling for YEARS. :up

The bottom line is the team needs to improve a lot if they are going to go anywhere this year. And that means specifically Terrell Pryor. He needs to play a LOT better than that.
Against better teams some of those passes EASILY could have been interceptions.

I'll take the touchdowns, thank you very much. Especially when you have a shaky Terrell Pryor at QB, with drives constantly stalling at the Miami 7 yard line.

I see...so when the defense can stop them....it is a "stalled" offense but when the opposing QB throws a INT....it is great defense? I gotcha!

Back to the bottom line after our regularly scheduled interruption.
Ohio State in general, and Terrell Pryor in particular, must play MUCH better if they hope to be able to compete with the better teams the rest of the way. They will not be able to play that poorly and still have the other team literally hand them the game.
