In another article that I read he was specifically talking about the on line version for non Directv subs. I wonder if this article is taking his remarks out of context

I actually think it was about both the online and the TV version . :)

Both would be good.

The pricing has just gotten completely out of hand and I finally canceled it this year. The issue for me is that I can't always watch it every weekend. Plus, towards the end of the season, the local stations usually end up showing the matchups I wanted to see anyway.

So this year I'm just watching the games streamed over the net for free (search around and you can find them). Yeah, picture quality sucks in comparison. You get the occasional glitches. But I no longer feel like I'm wasting money when I have to go do some chore around the house instead of sitting on my ass watching football.

Ideally, I'd like to see them switch to an ala carte system. $10 gets you one Sunday's worth of viewing. I think they would get WAY more people viewing that way.

the price is soo high because they pay the nfl 1bill a year for the rights
just to break even they need almost 3mill people to get it

For Exclusive Rights

If would be alot less for everyone all around if it wasn't exclusive.

But D* might lose some of those NFL ST Diehard fans if that happends.

But they are already losing ST subscribers just because they put a crazy price tag on it.

Actually this year directv is still paying $700,000,000.
2011-2014 its $1,000,000,000 per year.

Your #s are way off.
Bars, clubs, restaurants pay $1,000s for ST so the actual residential subs needed is less that 3 million.

I can only name about 2 bars in a 25 mile span I've seen ST. Its not as big anymore. Most people can't spend the money to sit in a bar to watch football and drink beer anymore.

Most Bars in my area are struggling just to stay in business.

WOW! Every bar I have been in over the past 3 years has had it. Even most have special signage up during pre-season advertising they have it. It is a HUGE draw commercially. I know for a fact EVERY Damon's, Hooters and Buffalo Wild Wings franchise has it and its usually on EVERY TV.

I never saw that. Numbers might be high, but cash flow is most likly low.

I agree that the profit margin is low, but I bet the IS a profit; just on the ST part alone. Not to mention the trickle down it has. Its a good business decision for them and I am sure they have run the numbers each and every way possible.

It would cost me more then $350 to go to the bar Every Sunday during football season on food and beer. I might as well stay home.:)

I have my local team on for Free, so that good enough for me.

If NFL ST was $200 though , I would subscribe every year.

I agree that going to the bar each and every Sunday is no personal cost savings just to see the game, but I think their model is to compare it to buying a season ticket and all those attached costs OR the fact if YOUR team is not where you live OR the fact it brings groups together at home; for those reasons ST really is a bargain, even at the current cost, but as with all things in life, its very dependent on one's personal situation. I have friends that come over to watch at my place that gripe about the cost because money always "seems" to be tight but have no problem burning $$ on over-price and un-needed fad clothing, smokes, beer, wasted fuel, wasted cellular usage, and prem cable channels that go unwatched 50% of the time or more, etc.. So to them I always give the big.... WAH, WAH!

I am like you; stay at home with it. I paid out once to setup a nice home bar and a keg fridge. I have a 100+ HD FPTV and we make it a groups each SUN with 2 or 3 grills going and its a great time.

MLB EI is a Bargain .

NFL ST isn't IMO.
Yes I know it would cost more to got to 16 Games, But it would cost alot more to go to 162 Baseball games, and Their package is only $200.

The games are all on TV anyway, so it's not like D* is doing anything more then what they do for the other seasonal sports pack.

Its Just because D* wants it exclusive to them , Thats where the $150 Extra comes from.

NFL ST being exclusive doesn't nothing for the customer except garentee a price increase beyond the others. This benifits only D*.
