OFFICIAL DISH / FOX ORDEAL DISCUSSION THREAD

I've never had DirecTV, so I can't say much. One belief of mine is that when (NOT IF) DirecTV looses its status as the only option for the Sunday Ticket, it will experience a mass exidus of subs as well. .
The only way I could see that is if D* didn't carry NFL ST at all.

But even if its not only exclusive to Directv, they still only have less then 2 million NFL ST subscribers. Not all of them would leave, Maybe the movie fans.

    Lost All Over disputes.

So that makes me think Dish is the one with the problem.
NONE of these have Reappeared, YET!

Wow that's allot of channels I didn't know the list was so big. Keep doing your thing Charlie :)

Your bills have already gone up and you don't even have these channels now. So How many more times do you want to keep paying Dish for channels they aren't providing , But yet still hiking up the rate more the once a year.

Sorry, Im not buying the "were doing this cause we love you" bit.

If that was the case, your rates wouldn't keep rising more times in a year then your competition.

Yes, my bill went up which didn't thrill me. But then I still have more national HD channels that I want than I would with D*. Today my E* bill is about the same or maybe a tad less than it would be with D*. Sure, I'd get more sports on D*, but they would be the sports I care little about.

And I never talked about "we're doing this cause we love you" since this is all business it has absolutely nothing to do with love and all to do about money. The content guys are watching their business model start to implode and are looking for more and better ways to increase profits instead of lose them.

I believe Fox is taking the right way to test the waters by taking on Dish in this. Dish is less about sports as DK noted and this is easier for Fox to do. Hopefully (wishfully?) Dish won't bend over. You better be hoping for it too.

What you fail to realize is that, even if everyone here agreed that it is OK to do this illegal act, just like many believed prohibition was wrong, does not mean they are going to allow people to post evidence of them supporting this illegal act (just like nobody was stupid enough to post fliers on the streets telling them exactly where the Speakeasies were located along with the passwords to get in).

Freedom of speech stops when said speech promotes illegal acts

I know we're getting sidetracked here, but since we can't watch our RSNs, what the heck.

But I don't necessarily agree with your argument. POSTING of speakeasies (just like posting of illegal live streaming websites) are not illegal. The speakeasies and the sites themselves are illegal.

You have the freedom to promote and sell a radar detector. What you do with that device is up to you.

And yet programming is still cheaper, imagine that.:D

And comparable setups with DirecTV would be much less money instead of pretty much the same amount of money.

Sure programming packages are less expensive. The extra costs are made up by equipment and add-on fees. This is similar to my local cable company giving its subs free HD, but charging $10/month to use an HD box.

SOME comparable setups might be a little less with D* than E*, and a very few might be a bit less than that. Mine is slightly less with E* than it would be with D*. But I get a better channel selection of channels I want to watch with E* in HD. Frankly, even if mine was higher I wouldn't switch since D* has pretty much gone stagnant on adding national HD channels.

I'm enjoying watching HD Net Movies, and HD Net Theater on my 625,the only other one I want is HD Net so I can watch Art Mann!.:D

I've never had DirecTV, so I can't say much. One belief of mine is that when (NOT IF) DirecTV looses its status as the only option for the Sunday Ticket, it will experience a mass exidus of subs as well. The only reason they are #1 is because of this status. The NFL better hope that they reach a new contract with the NFLPA, because if we see a strike or lockout next season, they will have to allow cable access to the Sunday Ticket, just to get fans back.
You realize the difference between the number of subs Direct has and Dish has is greater than the number of ST subs. Even if everyone of them left to go elsewhere, there will still be more subs on Direct than Dish

And yet programming is still cheaper, imagine that.:D
What is the difference between cheaper programming vs cheaper fees? Too me it is just a marketing ploy. Again, like the example with many cable companies. Many offer free HD, but charge $10 more to use an HD receiver.

Which is exactly why Dish is the better option for you and if I were in your boots, I would probably choose Dish as well.

Thanks, it is the better option for me. I've had both services at different times, and even a short period of time, had both on. l like both services and could live with either. When I shut D* off it was strictly because the HR20s (I had 4 of them in the 1st month) and HR21 that I had were so painfully slow that every day I wanted to throw the remote through the window! :)

My question is simply how many DirecTV subs are there strickly because of something that DirecTV managed to monopolize? We will never get that true number. That number would be even greater if DirecTV got there way and became the only game in town for the MLB! One day, DirecTV will loose its status as "the only game in town". Their sports status is what is giving them many of their subs, and that will change.

Movie fans can't stand DirecTV. What's with their crappy offers for HBO and Cinemax (Cinemax has what, 2 channels with a thid being just the west coast feed of the main channel?) I know that Dish doesn't offer all either, but at least they're offering more at the same price. DirecTV also flat out refused EPIX, because they claimed that there were too many movie channels (aren't there too many sports channels?)

Also, they are in the same game of annoying their costomers over some of their programming disputes. I had my mother's boss asking me to allow him to watch the NHL on Versus at my house last season. I still listen to my friends complain about a little something called Sonic Tap. They basically demand that I put on Sirius XM when they come over. Can't we compare Versus to the FSN dispute (I know that most of us watch our RSNs more than Versus)? We can compare the Sonic Tap issue to the Fuse issue. Fuse fans on Dish can watch MTV or VH1, even though they are both horrible.

To wrap up this rant, all I'm saying is that DirecTV's status as the only game in town for some of the sports is the underlining factor behind many of the subs it has. If they played fairly and didn't monopolize the NFL, NASCAR, and others (YES not being included, Dish could have YES) those sub numbers, I believe, would be much different. Maybe more in cable's favor than anyone else.
