I'm thinking about switching to D* and have gotten most of my questions answered by hanging around this forum - great information! I have two remaining questions before I pull the trigger with D*.

Based on comments I've read, I want the HR24 DVR's and H24 receivers (I'll get two of each). I'll be signing up on-line to get the Costco deal. Is there any way to ensure I get the HR24 equipment? Can I reject other receivers if I get them or am I locked in at that point with no choice? I find it odd that I am at the mercy of luck in what equipment I receive. I would think I could have some control over that.

Secondly, do the HD DVR's have component outputs? Due to some limitations in my other equipment, I need to output the D* via component.

Thanks for all the help!

No.

Reasoning or personal need doesn't change the company policy that all HD DVRs are the same. Rejecting equipment will require a reschedule and there's no more assurance that the equipment you want will be available at that point.

Yes, they have component outputs. A word of warning about component: most carriers (DIRECTV included) will black out content on the component outputs that is encumbered with HD copy protection so component may not be a long term solution if the content you want is likely to be protected.

Yes you can guarantee an HR24, but only if you purchase it yourself from a retailer like Amazon. (And remember, it's still a lease) Refusing the install because you are not getting an HR24, may only guarantee you not getting DirecTV. Supply can't keep up with demand right now, so your installer might not even have one. An installer told me that if you order the Whole Home DVR service you get priority with the 24 series receivers. (That could be a local installer preference)

Component outputs work fine (for now). I am yet to see a show blacked out on DirecTV because of copy protection.
