OFFICIAL DISH / FOX ORDEAL DISCUSSION THREAD

Most of the programming I watch is from my local RSN my pro basketball, pro baseball, and local college games. This really is a bummer.

Local football team is finally getting to league games and TV...on FSN. :( I'm guessing I can get credit on my bill for the time it's off? I'm pay $5/month for the "+" on my package and there is no programming for the +

making money?

dish is running a 25% profit margin, so they are not doing bad either

btw newscorp is only @ 7-8%
The point being what?
boo hhooo feel sorry for fox. your info is suspect at best.
And even if dishs margin is that high, what diff? Its still a better value for a lot of us that dtv.
Might be interesting to see murdochs net worth vs charlies too, or is your source limited?

Comcast is now running commercials in my area saying that they are missing out of FX and all fox channels if they are a dish customer, and if they call them to switch they will guarantee you a better deal than what you are paying dish for.

I'd gladly drop Dish because of FSN being gone if it weren't for that big old contract hook in my back. But that's why it's as cheap as it is. We mostly watch neflix anyway. But FSN carries all my local teams. :(

Well, The Red Wings kick off their season tonight and I can't watch the game - even with the free Center Ice Preview as the feed that C.I. is using is the FSN Detroit one.

They will get a bit more time to work it out, but if they don't, we will leave.

Our family does watch sports and if they don't settle, we will go somewhere we can watch what we would like to.

Not going to take sides in the dispute. I don't really care.

I pay for a service to be able to view what I want to view. If I can't view that programming on Dish, I will go to somewhere I can. Plain and simple.

I had a Comcast salesman knock on my door yesterday trying to sell me cable....never had that happen before.....he was very aware of the DISH/FOX issue. I will sit tight for awhile and see how this plays out. I do like my EHD on my 211.

taking a look at the uplink report on the other site, this might be getting uglier... earlier today a number of hidden channels were uplinked and mapped down to one channel away from fox owned LiL channels...

ie> hidden channels in New York mapped down to 6 and 10; Philly mapped down to 30, LA -12 and 14...

Dish should take the remaining RSNs and make them full time HD. Then tell Fox they are going to reallocate the satellite space, so they better come to terms now or there will no longer be space available for any carriage.

And Fox will probably say, "Fine, it will hurt you more than it hurts us. Those that want these RSNs will continue to watch them through another provider"

Well-stated.

I don't know if its been posted yet...if it has sorry

With Fox negotiations coming up it was thought to be just the O&O ones...but the ones that use to be O&O and sold to Local TV LLC a couple years ago I gues Local LLC wants Fox to negotiate for them...so they may be gone too

Local TV LLC markets
Denver
Ft Collins
Cleveland
St Louis
KC
SLC
Milwaukee
Greensboro, NC

and the news article of one
OnMilwaukee.com Movies & TV: OnMedia: Dish subscribers may lose Channel 6 after all

and the snippet
Channel 6, by the way, had been owned by Fox. It was sold in 2007, along with 17 other Fox affiliates, to a company called Local TV LLC. That company has its own negotiations going with Dish, and Channel 6 general manager Chuck Steinmetz tells me the group has given Fox its proxy to handle the talks.

"If the agreement isn't signed, we would come off Dish here in the market," Steinmetz says.

Ala carte offering of sports channels is unlikely to happen unless the Government steps in and forces it.

Ironic how it will take an act of govt to "regulate" the system into a truly capitalist mode (where each channel gets bought/sold a la carte.. on its own merits).

Life.. the only thing stranger than fiction :)

How many homes would ESPN be in if people had to $15 - $18 per month for a package of ESPN channels? To break even on ala carte ESPN would need 35 million subs.

Once their business model fell apart they would not be able to pay big rights fees to all the leagues and teams.

Jim

And what a shame it would be if those overpaid sports stars couldn't make their millions :) Truly the end of society :) And don't forget how many papparazi (sp?) would be forced to find meaningful work when there are fewer mega-stars with crazy lives to photograph every moment of...

Still, I suspect there would be MANY subscribers.

I was so glad to see FOX lose the BCS coverage.... Couldn't stand watching a CFB game on Fox due to them slamming commercials during time outs but forgetting to come back in time for the next ball snap. They would squeeze them suckers in so tight it wasn't even funny. I hope Fox just dries up and dies...takes crappy American Idol's crap with them! :up

Im sure that the majority are very negative. And dish had more than enough warning, hell I gave it to them myself. If they would have done what I said, 4 months ago, they wouldnt be in this situation! I even offered a helping hand. I got laughed at. I predicted if they stayed on the course that the titanic would begin to sink. Sure enough, 4 months later they have lost not only disney, but FX, Natgeo, and all of the Fox owned RSN's. It wasnt hard seeing this trainwreck coming, yet some on this board wont get credit due where its due and will still find a way to bitch about how the bob's still have it wrong when we were more than 1000 percent right all allong. :up
