With DIRECTV's Whole-Home DVR service, you and your family can watch two recorded shows at the same time on separate TVs — for example, your kids can watch one show on the TV in their room and you can watch another in the living room. If you happen to have a second HD DVR, you can watch up to four recorded shows at the same time in different rooms — every HD DVR in your Whole-Home DVR setup allows you to watch two recorded shows at the same time in different rooms.

DIRECTV How many different recorded shows can my family watch at the same time?

True statement but with an asterisk.... One of the DVR programs has to be seen on the TV where the DVR is connected. You can only "stream" one DVR program to another TV connected somewhere else at a time.

I nearly decided against DirecTV when I discovered that. In their marketing material it "seems" like you can watch recorded content at the same time from multiple remote receivers -if you look at the video on the link below, it's kind of misleading (start at the :39 mark). I ended up going with DirecTV anyway and just getting a second DVR.

If you have one HD dvr then you can record 2 shows and watch 1 of those recordings on that tv.

If you have one HD dvr and one HD then you can record 2 shows and watch 1 show (not recording) on the HD.

If you have 2 HD dvr s then double your recordings.

Thank you......I wish you were the one answering the phones at D. It took my wife 5 hours and 7 phone calls to get that answer. And this was escalated all the way to the "Presidents's office"...(whatever that is). The original statment I pasted above is straight from D's website. She and I both felt it was a bit deceptive, since we were used to E's dvrs. We had just gotten the install done(long time E customer), and she discovered that she was not able to stream more than one, while her son was watching in another room. The guy at the presidents office offered the resolution of giving us another DVR, which now gives us a total of 3 + one hd recvr.. Bottom line, the training that the CSR's and even Supvs. was severly lacking.
I should have come here first for the answer.

Oh, I forgot the best part. One of the CSR's told my wife..."Dish has better technology than us." She better hope that call wasn't recorded.

A lot of what we watch in the evening is broadcast network stuff. I can get my OTA channels pretty nicely (from 42 miles away) so I connected my antenna directly to my TV. Now we can record 2 shows off satellite and still watch something from the antenna. Obviously not going to always work out as a solution, but so far it's been working out fine.

If you feel the need to record OTA, you can add the AM21 OTA tuner to the HR24.
