I don't think 2 will be out of the question, depending on your application.

I'm using a 7 tuners currently right now, I certainly won't pay $3 more per month and only have 5 tuners. No way!!

Its going to come down to cost, Just like everything else it depends on how much your willing to invest in your system.

Right Now I feel the $3 MRV fee is BS, Because I still have to pay for all this equipment anyway. Why not just get another HD DVR and save your $40 per year for nothing, and your $150 + for Deca setup. HD DVR's can be had for $99 without even putting up much of a fight.

$262 was what I was just quoted for MRV install! F that!

you don't think they will stone?

Not right away. I remember when the first HR20s came off the line employees were limited to one and eventually customers were do to the demand.

I expect the same thing here probably do to the number of tuners not be allowed to have more then 1 to begin with .

I am New to Directv, just signed up yesterday after 12 years with Dish Network. I am confused about these new units. are the HR24's that I ordered two of going to be obsolete? Should I try to get the HR30? are the HR24's dual tuners? can I still DVR 1 HD show while watching another from the HR24 box? I have 2 HR24's and 2 HR20's coming on the 13th of November. am I coming in too soon before the ability to get the new technology?

Well the First HR 20-s were also $299 alone just to Lease, Not exactly peanuts.
I paid $199 for that H20-600 that was a Brick. Again not Peanuts!

If anything will be to blame about single sales will be because I bet most won't be able to afford to lease more then one.
Just like the H2* series back in early 2006!:)

Well if you want your install to wait untill 2012 , Yes then wait.
ThisNew Whole Home Model hasn't even released yet, nor does it even have a release date!
This product could be years off for all we really know!

Also the HR20's are far from obsolete, so I would imagine your HR24's will be safe untill about 2014, before they are considered "obsolete"!:D

2 Hr24 and 2 HR20 is about as good as it gets! 4 Hr24 would be the Best. But I would much rather have what your getting then that Single 5 tuner receiver , That I can tell you for sure. Most everyone else would most likly feel the same way.

I don't know if 3D is an issue or option for you , But last I knew the HR20 won't do 3D. Just so your aware!

Never would that ever be an issue with me, but a little added info never hurts.

Here is some more info on this 5 tuner receiver.

HMC30 Now in Beta test? - DBSTalk.Com
This info dating back to July, makes me wonder why NO MENTION of this Receiver on Satellite Guys, Untill I got Emailed about it from another member who was obviously a major source to Satellite Guys on the Directv Front!

If this was about a Dish Network receiver it would have been ALL OVER this site. Where is Dish Networks whole Home DVR?

This is Way more valuable then a built in sling box that a Fraction of the population even have any intrest in!

I bet 90% of all customers have more then one receiver.
I bet less then 1% have a 922 and I bet less then 2% even know or care about a sling box.

i have to agree with you on this. it seems like when its negative news about directv it'll make front page news quick. when its good news it takes awhile if it ever reaches front page. but whatever. sorry but thats how i see it as well.

I you can only get 1 5 tuner HD DVR, then I wouldn't be interested. At least for now. Currently I have 10 tuners. 3 HD DVRs (2 HR22s and 1 HR20) and 2 SD DVRs (2 R16s). And they get used a lot.

Early next year, I intend to replace my last two SDTVs with two 32 inch HDTVs. At that point I want to get 2 HR24s (one for my living room and one for my bedroom). The other HD DVRs will get moved around with the HR20 going into the den and the two HR22s going to my daughters' room. They all will be linked together with MRV. So this will give my 10 tuners and a combined 2.3 TB of data.

Once my girls move out, which won't be for a while, a single 5 tuner box would be good enough.

The only complaint I have with my HR24 & two H24s is no ability for pausing live TV when viewing out in the workshop. So far I have only had one recording conflict. Not bad at all.

With 5 tuners, some will still not be satisfied. They will be angry cause they are recording five programs at the same time and can't watch a sixth program live.

That's not the argument. The argument is that if you have one of these in the house hooked up to 4 TV's, every recording in progress monopolizes a remote TV, just like Dish's 722 does. Unless it has the ability to switch remote TVs to different tuners on the fly, it won't work. In a house with a kid or two, a few conflicting recordings on a setup like that can trigger a war. I would be very happy with one of those boxes, and remote TV's having their own boxes with MRV.
