SatelliteGuys 4.0 (upgrade) Problem Thread

I dont believe I can move that one, that is inserted automaticlly by the chat plugin. Its not just a link but a dynamic link that changes based on how many people are in the chat. If it was a simple link it would be a lot easier to change... but I will look into it. :)

Don't know if the site or my browser settings are off, but I'm getting double writing on the links at the top of the page, ie: Chat Room What's New Today is overprinting New Posts (Entire Site) Today's Posts or vice versa, I can't tell which is on the bottom and which is on top. It's almost like a part of one page is superimposed on another.

I have the same problem!

Thanks,

I was able to make a post in the D* sub-forum now. It started about the time the Pub membership expired and the banning trick seemed to clear things up.

The joys of vB. I remember long time ago when I was running vB 3.6 a member had similar issues and took awhile to figure it out. Turned out to be a usergroup issue.

I'll rejoin the pub level whenever I get my nasty dispute with Paypal solved.

Kimmikat I have checked your account and all seems ok....

But just in case there was some permissions hosed on your account I banned you and unbanned you to reset everything.

If your still having an issue please PM me and I will change your password and try logging in as you can seeing if I can find out anything.

Minor issue...

...with Page Heading. When visiting the the SatGuys main page, forum, etc. the browser window heading says "SatelliteGuys.US - Windows Internet Explorer. However, when clicking on "New Posts (Entire Site)" the page heading says, "Search Results - SatelliteGuys.US - Windows Internet Explorer" OK, I don't remember the old site starting off with "Search Results" since its not technically not a search function from the user perspective. Can you modify this this from the page headings to start with "SatelliteGuys.US" because I am looking at my browser tabs on the Task Bar and "Search Results" is confusing...especially since I often have 2-3 SatGuys threads opened. It appears the same page heading is returned when display New Posts from Dish Forum, DirecTV Forum, etc.

If nobody else finds this annoying then I will sit-down and shut-up.

Thanks in advance.

The page heading is like ads to me... I just don't look at it/them.

On the back-end of vB, the "New posts..." function is apparently a search query.

Scott,
How long does the Edit Button stay up ?

Any way to keep it longer ?

Seems like it's gone within an hour or two, how about 24 hours ?

Still wondering about the "New Free To Air Forum Posts" link in the "New Posts" drop-down menu (see post #98 in this thread). Used to include all the FTA sub-forums (FTA Shack, 4DTV, et al) but now only includes the basic "FTA Discussion" forum. Would like to see all the sub-forums again included in the "New Free To Air Forum Posts" results.

Also miss the brief note that used to be on every page stating the last time I logged on, but that's very minor.

In previous versions if vB it was configurable. Probably just one of many tweaks Scott did and forgot about when he did the update (understandable, of course).

Actually this was changed awhile back if I recall correctly .... it use to be much longer, now it's not, but like I said, this was before the upgrade as well.

I know some were complaining because some would go back and change thier posts when people inquired about them, so I think it was cut in til\me that edit was available.
I would think at least 24 hours should be available.

I think the edit button stays for a few hours then is gone.

We had a couple people abusing it and thats why the time was adjusted, this happened sometime earlier in the year.

24 hours ? No way ! 5 minutes, 10 minutes is better and probably a bit on the long side... You really shouldn't be able to change what you said, especially if others have quoted or responded to you. If you need to edit or make corrections, you should be able to 1) preview before you post and if not, 2) double-check it after hitting 'post'.

Not sure if this has been reported

I clicked on a member's photo gallery and got this.
_______________

Warning: fetch_template() calls should be replaced by the vB_Template class. Template name: navbar in [path]/includes/functions.php on line 4007

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /usr/home/satellit/public_html/photopost/header-inc.php(80) : eval()'d code on line 1

Thanks, Scott, for the including the sub groups in the FTA Forum New Posts link. This site is still the best for satellite viewers.

not sure if its been mentioned
but the site is sloooooww
here at work on a t1 it feels like im on dialup
even slower at home
No one seemed to take this complaint seriously, by simply replying that their speeds are faster than ever. However, this is very frustrating for me as well, and I have no idea if there is some setting I have that's causing this. I have cleared cookies on home and work computers (T1 at work), and this site is the slowest since the upgrade that I visit.

I have two computers running Vista using IE8. This site was as fast as any other before the upgrade and I haven't changed any settings. All Microsoft updates have been installed.

Any help/suggestions from anyone? By this I also mean no jokes about Vista please. It runs beautifully for me. :D
