Welcome to another Satelliteguys DISH Network Retailer Chat Recap. As always we only report information from these chat which may be of interest to the consumer. We do not report on retailer sensitive items such as costs and earnings.

Todays show is hosted by Amir and Brian, they start by telling us how important it is to connect the receivers to the internet, 2011 is going to be all about connectivity and as the year goes on that message is going to get louder and be more important.

Effective February 1st, ClubDISH is being renmaed to DISH Friends and Family.

Looks like the 922 will be $200 via DISH'n It Up for all customer as of 2/1. (Some customers currently could pay up to $400 for a 922 under Dish'n it up currently.)

HD Platinum will be changing its name to DISH Platinum and will continue to be $10 a month, includes 21 channels plus provides access to 2,500 movies (this requires an HD DVR receiver with a broadband internet. (they are trying to play up the 2,500 movie titles almost like they will be free if you have the DISH Platinum package.

They go into the new pricing which are effective on 2/1.

The now move on to talking about OWN and show a video with Oprah. No mention of when OWN will launch in HD.

Now a guest from Showtime talking about Showtime. Nothing new here....

We now move onto marketing. And they are really pushing the Everyday Price Guarantee until 2013 message.

Now talking about Team Summit which is coming up in May in Denver.

The go to Blake who informs retailers 922's will qualify as a one or two tv install on new installs as of 2/1. After 2/1 922's will be packed with two remotes.

As of February 1st there will be NO one time activation fee for External Hard Drives.... however for 211 and 211k's to turn them into a DVR the $40 fee still applies.

Dish will not longer be accepting payments from Green Dot as of February 1st.

And with that they go to questions and wrap up the show.

So they drop the external hard drive fee for vip dual tuner receivers and keep it on the 211/211ks? As usual I already paid the $40.00 fee for both of my DISH accounts for both external hard drives and to turn 211ks into dvrs. A day late and $40.00 short x 2 accounts , it seems.

The 211's are not External Hard Drives, they actually turn the 211's into Single tuner DVR's which is a lot different then just adding an EHD.

Point is that I already paid $40.00 on two of my DISH accounts to turn my 211ks into dvrs ,as well as paid the $40.00 fee to add external hard drives to my dual tuner dvrs. A day late and $40.00 x 2 short. I guess this is a positive move for new subs ,unless DISH is trying to turn this into another monthly fee in the future, in order to generate more revenue.

Yup the price for being an early adopter. :)

But if you knew that fee was going to be waved 2 years ago would you have waited until now? (No neither would I. I feel that turning on EHD was a good value and added to my DISH Network experience.) :)

Definitely wouldn't of waited, but then again I always adopt new receivers when they come out ,even when they are not ready for prime time. I guess it is the price of being an early adopter of the latest technology.

Thanks for the info. Planned on getting a hard drive for my 722 next week. Will still get it , but will wait until Feb 2nd or so to activate it...

Yeah, I hate to say it but I've been holding off turning on EHD because of the $40.00, but now I can go ahead and do it, so this makes me happy...One less charge to have to explain "Why?" to the wife...:D

Yup. I was suspicious this would happen, and I deliberately limped along without the EHD. I didn't think it would take 2 years, though. The new fee-less EHD will be very nice, particularly for my receivers with a dinky (320GB) drive.

This makes our programming price increases a little more bearable.

Just a thought, Dish starts to charge a monthly fee for the external drive, but not for those who paid the $40? But for that to work out, I would think the fees would have to start on Feb 1st also..... If they are now giving it for free, with no fees I would at least like some of their famous PPV coupons......

<sigh> Dish drops a fee, and we still dump on them.

<double sigh> And perhaps deservedly so. We'll have to wait and see.

I suppose no mention of that rumored "something-or-other" free in exchange for that February price increase? (or are those VODs it?)

As far as I understand its the encore channels for free. (of course I could be wrong)

Encore, not Starz? Don't we ALREADY get most of the Encore channels with AT250?

So the Encore channels will be Free for all 12 months Scott? IF so I need to drop off the Encore pack on my Dad's account in my name. No since paying an extra $5.00 a month if they are free.

Wow, this is pretty much as worthless as a "free movie pack" offer could be. Already part of the Top 250 pack and sorely lacking in HD. Congrats to those with the 120 or 200 packages.

I have to agree. Not to dump on Dish, but when I updated to the 250 pack, I thought that the Encore channels were pretty weak, specially that only one was in HD. That why I went back down to the 200 pack. I hope Dish changes this upcoming promo.
