DISH Network Price Change

Man, talk about a screwy situation...

I talked to a guy in exec today via phone. No problem, they gave me the Starz free for a year. What did I discover tonight? All my other premiums had been removed! I got on chat, explained it to a guy named Ethan and he resolved it within a few moments, for no charge, since I've had the premiums forever (at least over 8 years) and saw that on my account history. I have no idea how one simple request can result in a screw-up like that...

A little help. I just took a look at my bill online and it seems I have Platinum with the America Top 200. I seem to recall dropping platinum at some point last year but they stubbornly added it back.

What is this platinum? And why am I paying $10 for it? Also, It seems like the American Silver package has everything pretty much that the 200 has, at least everything I want, is there a direct chart somewhere comparing Silver to Top 200?

FMI on Dish Platinum, go to this site: HD Platinum - Dish Network

I do not know of a chart comparing the two, but Dish has sites on the two (use at your own risk...lol):

Dish America Silver: DISH America Silver From DISH Network

America's Top 200: America's Top 200 Package - Over 200 Channels From DISH Network

I hope that helps.

By the way, what channels do you like? We may be able to find a package that suits you by knowing the channels that you absolutely want.

I got the three months free Starz and screwed myself. It ended yesterday. Now, instead of all the Starz channels free for a year, I get one channel, Encore.

<sarcasm> Yippie!</sarcasm>

At least I didn't get PPV coupons.

Are you serious? Only one Encore? Not the other Encores like Encore Action, Encore Love, Encore Drama, Encore Mystery, Encore West, Encore Westerns, or/and MoviePlex?

Only the main Encore, channel 340, is in HD. All the rest are SD. Probably what he meant. At least Starz has more HD channels. And as we all know, SD sucks, so...

Looks OK to me.:)

We watch them as well. You may have to change your TV settings especially if you have the factory settings on it. Even after changing our settings, I noticed that certain channels did not look so nice even on a Sony Bravia. Surprisingly, going from 1080i to 720p on the Dish box made quite a difference. It does not hurt to try, and it is a simple fix to cycle through resolutions. In addition, installers usually do not change the HD settings on the Dish HD box. Therefore, you may be on 480p.

Where the hell do you get that idea?

I am talking about going into the menus for the HD setup for the box. The installers that my family had left it on the default of 480p.

Otherwise, overall, I thought that our installer did a good job, and I could tell that he did the best that he could do. He also took the time to explain features. Our DirecTV install was not very good. I cannot say that my comments reflect all installers of DirecTV and Dish Network either.

But that's exactly what you said. "installers usually do not change the HD settings on the Dish HD box." From a single instance you drew the conclusion that this is standard practice among installers. As someone who's been an installer for the better part of a decade, I can tell you that's not the case at all.

Actually, it was from more than one instance.
I do make mistakes just as anyone else.
I really did not think that you had to reply to me so roughly; I thought that this was somewhat of a "family" site.
Well, that is wonderful to know that installers do go into the menus to change the HD setup or resolution.

What you mean is that *you* don't do it. I've had a 622 and a 722k installed by Dish and neither installer changed it from. 480p. The installers were excellent in all (other) aspects too.

You know I was sitting down and figuring this $5.00 increase a month vs the Free Starz offer for a year and I thought this. Starz at $13.00 a month X 12 months = $156.00. Price hike is $5.00 x 12 months = $60.00. Two years is $120.00. So How exactly is DISH coming out ahead on this price hike? The way I see it we are at least $36.00 ahead on the deal : $156.00(Starz for 1 year) - $120.00( price hike x two years)= $36.00. This is the first price hike I have seen, where I actually get something more of value than before it went into effect.
